Respawn and EA gas surprised fans by announcing that the Apex Legends next-gen upgrade will finally launch on March 29, which is today.
We’ve seen this upgrade teased over the past few months, promising to take full advantage of the new consoles without relying on backwards compatibility. That's coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Apex Legends Finally Drops on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Later Today
For those unaware, here’s how to upgrade to the next-gen versions of Apex Legends and other improvements that will be coming via updates, courtesy of EA:
Improvements over backward-compatible versions:
- 4K output (PS5 & Xbox Series X)
- Full 60hz gameplay (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S)
- HD (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S)
- Higher resolution shadow maps (PS5 & Xbox Series X)
- Greater LOD distances (PS5 & Xbox Series X)
Coming in future updates:
- 120hz gameplay (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S)
- Adaptive triggers (PS5)
- Haptics (PS5)
- Visual Improvements (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S)
- Audio Improvements (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S)
For PS5 Owners who already have Apex Legends installed:
- Navigate to the Game Hub for Apex Legends on the PS5 dashboard.
- Press the "Options" button next to "Play Game" (represented by "..." inside the Game Hub).
- Press "Select Version" and choose the PS5 version to download the updated next-gen version.
- Once the download is complete, navigate to the Game Library to delete the PS4 version.
For Xbox Series X/S Owners:
- Apex Legends uses Smart Delivery on Xbox consoles. The best version of the game is automatically delivered to your console, regardless of generation – no extra steps are required from you.
These launch as part of The Warriors Collection Event, which brings back the 9v9 Control Mode for a limited time. Alongside fighting on Olympus and Storm Point, EA announced that Caustic Treatment on King’s Canyon would also join this mode, giving players another area to wage war in.
Apex Legends will soon be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, alongside PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Apex Legends Mobile launches on Android devices this Summer, with an iOS version arriving later.
