Back 4 Blood is a first-person shooter game developed by Turtle Rock Studios. Most of humanity has been infected, which has turned them into zombified monsters called the Ridden. The game is set around one year after the infection began to spread, with the last of humanity fighting for survival every single day.
In the game, you play as one of the Cleaners, a team of survivors that are fighting back against the Ridden in Evansburgh. The mutated monsters come in all shapes and sizes, from the large Exploders to the agile Stingers, all of them are dangerous. If fighting through the story becomes too much, then you can enjoy the PvP swarm mode where you can become the Ridden instead! The game was released in October 2021, and the first DLC for the game is now on its way.
Table of Contents
In this guide, we show you everything you can expect from the Tunnels of Terror DLC.
Release Date
The Tunnels of Terror DLC is due to be released on April 12, 2022. It will be available as a purchasable addition to Back 4 Blood for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.
One of the interesting things about the DLC is that your entire party can play the new co-op mode if only one of them has bought it.
What Is It?
The Tunnels of Terror are seven different dungeons that are set below Evansburgh that are known as Ridden Hives. This four-player co-op mode lets you team up with other Cleaners to survive the perils that await in these twisting maze-like areas. If you manage to live through the infestation of the new types of Ridden, known as Warped Ridden, your team will earn rare rewards and loot.
New Cleaners
If you choose to purchase the DLC you'll gain access to two brand-new Cleaners. You'll be able to play as Sharice, a fire-fighter that favours using an axe to decapitate Ridden, or a professional (but tough) restauranter called Heng.
New Ridden
The Ridden have evolved in this DLC and we know that there are three new types that you'll encounter in the tunnels. Also, the new Warped Ridden will be available to use in the PvP Swarm Mode. Here are the three that we know about so far:
- Urchins
- Shredders
- Rippers
All of them sound like things you really don't want to face in the dark, confined space of an underground tunnel.

Extra Additions
As well as a new co-op mode, new cleaners, and terrifying new Ridden, there are several other additions that come as part of Tunnels of Terror.
- 8 Character Skins
- Seven Legendary Weapons
- 12 New Weapon Skins
- 15+ New Cards
- Warped Chests
- Skull Totems
More additions have been teased, but we have no more information on them at this moment in time. We will update this page as we learn more about the Tunnels of Terror DLC pack.
If you're battling your way through Ridden in Back 4 Blood, we have some guides that can help you. Check out our guide that shows you how to kill a Snitcher. Fighting off Ridden is hard anyway, but the walking alarm can make it a lot harder. Battling zombies will inevitably end in you being wounded in some way. Take a look at our guide to learn how to heal your health and trauma damage. When you're taking on waves of Ridden, your health is precious.
