Map editors often feature in first-person shooter (FPS) titles, allowing players to create entirely different battlefields to use within multiplayer. Despite the popularity of the feature, the Call of Duty franchise doesn't feature an editor.
With the launch of Modern Warfare 2 on the horizon, players criticise map design and spawn logic on a regular basis. Although the community offers feedback to the developers, map design in Call of Duty rarely improves.
An underwhelming map pool could be a thing of the past. According to a leak, Modern Warfare 2 will feature a map editor that allows players to customise existing maps to suit their needs.
Modern Warfare 2 To Feature Map Editor
In a WhatIfGaming report from notable Call of Duty leaker "RalphsValve," Infinity Ward and Treyarch are collaborating on the editor that allows players to modify existing maps.
The leaker claims players can customise everything ranging from spawn points, objective locations, and map boundaries. Developers will keep a close eye on any community creations, offering players a verified tick if their map is suitable.
In addition, the map editor will appear in Treyarch's 2023 project. Details on what the Black Ops developer is working on remain a mystery.

As always, it's important to take leaks with a pinch of salt until Infinity Ward reveals any official information. The thought of a Modern Warfare 2 map editor is an interesting one. The feature could prove vital in ensuring maps are built for competitive play rather than the Call of Duty League (CDL) settling for the best of a bad bunch.
