While this could change, it would mean that Sledgehammer Games will have worked on two WWII set games in a row, following on from Call of Duty: WWII in 2017.

Eurogamer's sources have confirmed that Sledgehammer is leading the project, and while the initial reports from ModernWarzone had suggested an alternate timeline where World War 2 continues, Eurogamer suggests this is not the case.

Eurogamer reports that "Vanguard has a traditional WW2 setting", which follows on from 2019's present-day Modern Warfare reboot and Black Ops Cold War's 1980s setting.

As far as Activision has revealed, there will be a new Call of Duty title this year, but the publisher is yet to reveal any fresh information.
