The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom might have a secret competitor as Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is starting to get glowing reviews from critics and exciting fans of the long-standing franchise.
Released on virtually every modern platform, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on September 26. Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is a remaster of the fourth game in the series, which has spawned over 20 titles and spinoffs since 1995.
Worms Armageddon is perhaps the most culturally relevant and fun game in the series. It constantly ranks high in best-of lists when discussing games from the Nintendo 64, PS1, and Dreamcast era, and the Anniversary Collection seems to be a fitting tribute to it, according to early reviews.
Many Nintendo fans will have their eyes on Echoes of Wisdom; however, Nintendo Life was one of the first outlets to share their thoughts on Worms, praising the remaster for being exactly what fans want.
In Nintendo's Life review, Ollie Reynolds calls Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition "another slam dunk for Digital Eclipse and its ongoing mission of game preservation and historical documentation."
The game is jam-packed with content, including a remastered version of the original Armageddon, the Game Boy Color port, and a vast digital museum that features interviews and archived footage to enhance the experience for newcomers.
At the time of writing, the game does not have a score on Metacritic, but as more reviews pour in, we might have a sleeper hit on our hands. Potential GOTY? Perhaps a bit unlikely, but it is a positive sign for fans of the series moving forward.
