Many games from the pre-2012 era were iconic and legendary in terms of story, gameplay, and mechanics. Developers were pushing the tech during that time to its limits, resulting in many forgotten gems of gaming. Nowadays, remakes are becoming the norm in some publishers. Games like Final Fantasy 7 received a full-on remake that overhauled the gameplay and the story using current-gen tech, and classic games like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will receive new remake versions.
As much as gamers want more of their classic games to be remade, overhauling a video game from scratch requires a substantial amount of money and requires decision-making from different stakeholders. Recently, gamers in the gaming subreddit discussed which games deserve to be remade today should they win the Powerball lottery.

Originally posted on Reddit by user u/Random-reddit-name-1, they asked what games made before 2012 would other community members like to make should they instantly win the Powerball lottery. They suggested that they want Jade MEpire to be remade, a 2005 game from BioWare. Considering that the highest Powerball prize ever recorded was $2 billion, the budget would be more than 3 times that of Star Citizen's current production budget of $650 million.
One of the leading answers from the community is the game SSX Tricky, a snowboarding game made for several platforms in 2001. Just the game's title is enough to evoke nostalgia to many gaming fans, with one of them even saying they remember getting in line at dawn for the PS2's launch along with the game. Another title mentioned is Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which many consider to be the best Battlefield game ever. Respawn recently confirmed that the franchise will go back to its roots, and gamers will have to wait whether the new Battlefield will be like its predecessors.
Some others also mentioned The Simpsons: Hit and Run, TimeSplitters 2, and the Prototype series made with the team behind Insomniac's Spider-Man. Other notable titles are Golden Sun, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, and Black and White. Some fans mentioned Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory but these games are confirmed to have remake versions, with the Splinter Cell remake starting on the first game of the franchise.
Aside from production budget and stakeholder decisions, remade video games must also have the potential to earn revenue for the developers and publishers. Games like Concord, while it isn't a remake, recently shut down 2 weeks after its release.
While it is not impossible to see one of the games mentioned above have a remake anytime soon, gamers will have to wait for these games to be remade or play other titles to experience nostalgia all over again. Who knows, we might just get an Enter the Matrix remake soon.
