PlayStation 5 is coming this year, and a new leak has suggested that the console's UI could make the most of the console's lightning-fast SSD drive
According to a since-removed Gamereactor preview (spotted by Gematsu) of WRC 9, the PS5 version of the game is slated to allow players to jump straight into specific content from the console's home screen via "an instant deeplink".
PS5 Will Offer Instant Joining Of Friend's Games
As VGC notes, the feature lines up with a patent published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in March of this year known as "Direct Gameplay" which would allow players to jump into specific modes or content.
If it works as advertised, players will be able to hop straight into say, the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty 2020, for example. You'd even be able to hop into a friend's game, which for something like Destiny 2 could be a great help in the game's more challenging encounters.
When speaking to Wired last year, Mark Cerny noted how the new interface should alleviate the friction of jumping into a game, finding your friends, and then arranging to lobby up.
“Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don’t want the player to have to boot the game, see what’s up, boot the game, see what’s up,” Cerny explained. “Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real-time.
“Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them—and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player you just jump right into whatever you like.”
As someone that hops between multiple games pretty quickly, this sounds really cool. I love the idea of hopping into a Warzone match, for example, potentially skipping the awkward warm-up section, or playing something else while waiting for a Destiny raid group to hop online and then join them instantly.
