Sony confirmed to Digital Foundry that the console will be able to play a single-player, offline game, without requiring updates or an internet connection.

PS5 Can Play Games From A Disc With No Patches

That means if you pick up a console at launch, you'll be able to put in the disc for Spider-Man: Miles Morales and play it without downloading any patches.

That's great for anyone that's fed-up of constant patches, but it's also worth noting that you won't get the bug fixes they include.

Still, you should also remember that the digital-only PS5 will require an online connection, but we're sure you knew that already.

Of course, online games are likely to require patches, so don't expect to jump into Call of Duty multiplayer without downloading an update or two.

Presumably, this will also apply to disc-based PS4 games, too.

We now know that the PS5 will run all of PS4's games, except for a minuscule list.
