Are you looking for the best Dead by Daylight Hillbilly build guide? The Hillbilly is a fast-paced, ruthless character that was introduced when Dead by Daylight released back in 2016, alongside other characters like The Trapper and The Wraith.
Unfortunately for Hillbilly, he was nerfed quite considerably a while back and as such, a lot of players have dropped out of playing him. But that doesn’t necessarily mean his a bad character to play. On the contrary, Hillbilly is still very much a reliable Killer, but you just need to know when and how best to use his mobility.
Dead By Daylight The Hillbilly Perks
The Hillbilly has three unique perks that can be unlocked for other Killers via the Bloodweb.
Enduring
Pallets schmallets. The duration of Pallet Stuns is reduced by 40/45/50%.
Lightborn
You’re no longer able to be blinded by Flashlights, Firecrackers, Flashbangs or Blast Mines.
Tinkerer
Whenever a Generator is repaired by 70%, you gain a Loud Noise notification and are given the Undetectable Status Effect for 12/14/16 seconds.
What is the best build and perks for The Hillbilly?
We would go with the following perks for the Best possible Hillbilly Build:
Infectious Fright (The Plague Perk)
Whenever a Survivor is put into the Dying State by any means, all other Survivors within your Terror Radius will scream and reveal their current location to you for 4/5/6 seconds.
BBQ & Chilli (The Cannibal Perk)
A deep bond with The Entity unlocks potential in one's Aura-reading ability. After hooking a Survivor, all other Survivors' Auras are revealed to you for 4 seconds when they are farther than 40 metres from the Hook. Each time a Survivor is hooked for the first time, gain a stack-able 25% bonus to all Bloodpoint gains, up to a maximum of several percent.
Pop Goes the Weasel (The Clown Perk)
A deep bond with The Entity unlocks great strength. After hooking a Survivor, Pop Goes the Weasel activates for the next several seconds.
The next Generator you damage instantly loses 25% Progression. Regular Generator Regression applies afterwards and Pop Goes the Weasel deactivates.
Bamboozle (The Clown Perk)
Performing a vault action is 5/10/15% faster and calls upon The Entity to block that Vault location for Survivors for 8/12/16 seconds.
Dead By Daylight The Hillbilly powers
The Hillbilly’s Power is called The Chainsaw. The Hillbilly carries around The Chainsaw and uses it to drive himself into a feral frenzy, allowing him to move faster at twice the regular movement speed of an average Killer (9.6m/s). This allows The Hillbilly to traverse maps at an incredible speed, making him one of the highest mobility Killers in the game.
How The Hillbilly’s power works is that The Chainsaw is revved for a short time, and then the Killer sprints forward. The Hillbilly is able to turn (and can be assisted with turning speeds via add-ons) and rush throughout the map.
The Chainsaw is a powerful weapon as while it does make getting around the maps faster, if a Survivor is hit by The Chainsaw they are immediately put into the Dying State and put onto a hook. So be careful about that chainsaw!
The downside of The Chainsaw is revving, as well as bumping into objects and dashing as that applies heat to the weapon and thus causes it to Overheat. You’re able to tell when the weapon is close to Overheating by how it glows brighter. Once Overheated, The Hillbilly cannot use The Chainsaw until it reaches 0 Heat. So players will need to pick and choose when best to use The Chainsaw.
The Chainsaw originally had no way to Overheat, however the mechanic was introduced back in patch 4.1.0 and the Killer’s add-ons were also reworked to reflect this. As such, this was a significant nerf for previous Hillbilly players.
Best add-ons for The Hillbilly in Dead By Daylight
Each Killer comes with a number of different Add-Ons that’ll either improve the Killer’s base kit, or change it entirely to something more unique to shake gameplay up. The Hillbilly is a great example of this, with effects mostly focusing around The Chainsaw.
LoPro Chains
This add-on allows The Hillbilly’s sprint to continue after breaking a Pallet or Breakable Wall. Useful for when going after Survivors who drop the Pallet in your face and injuring them. You’re unable to put Survivors in the Dying State unless 5 seconds have passed since you’ve broken the Pallet or Breakable Wall with your Chainsaw.
Apex Muffler
An add-on that makes The Chainsaw inaudible for Survivors who aren’t in your Terror Radius. Incredibly terrifying for Survivors who have little time to react at hearing your Chainsaw and pinpointing where you’re coming from. Even deadlier when paired with the Iridescent Brick add-on, as that takes away The Hillbilly’s Terror Radius after maintaining 2 seconds of a Chainsaw Sprint.
Leafy Mash
The Hillbilly gains the Undetectable status for 15 seconds after landing a Chainsaw Hit. When paired with snowball perks like Infectious Fright, this can be useful for injuring and knocking down other Survivors.
Spiked Boots
This add-on tremendously increases the steering of The Hillbilly’s Chainsaw Sprint, making it easier to curve The Chainsaw and get an instant down on Survivors. The downside is that the recovery time of bumping into objects also increases.
Dead By Daylight The Hillbilly tips and tricks
- The Hillbilly is a highly mobile Killer, so builds that incorporate perks that are helpful in Chases as well as slowing Generators down (such as Enduring, Spirit Fury, and Pop Goes the Weasel) work great with The Hillbilly’s base kit.
- If a Survivor is working on a generator to the right, use The Chainsaw to curve inwards at them so that they’re blocked in and giving them no chance to escape from an instant down.
- Fake your movements to rush a Survivor into a tight space or Vault. You can act as though you’re going to turn right into the Killer Shack, leading the Survivor to turn to the left, but instead curve The Chainsaw to follow the Survivor’s movements.
- The Hillbilly is great when equipped with perks that let him know where Survivors are, like Infectious Fright and BBQ & Chilli. He is fast and can get to places faster than Survivors can run from, making it near impossible to escape from him.
- The Hillbilly can break Pallets and Breakable Walls with The Chainsaw - so don’t be afraid to use it on them when necessary.
- If you can get a one-hit with your mallet instead of The Chainsaw then don’t be afraid to use it. Ideally you should be trying to get downs with The Chainsaw, but that doesn’t mean to never use your mallet ever.Chases with Hillbilly can be a little longer than 20 seconds, but don’t waste your time all the same. Your high mobility means that even if you can’t get the Survivor in front of you, you can disturb other Survivors on Generators.
