Beyond Light may have only just launched, kicking off Destiny 2's fourth year, but Bungie's CEO has begun teasing new games that "continue to really show promise".
In an interview with Metro, Pete Parsons noted that "we started about three years ago, Jason [Jones] and Jonny Ebbert and Zach Russell and a few of us started working on new incubations"
"Actually, ironically, we expected a decently high failure rate from the incubations and what’s happened is, we are pretty excited about the work that’s being done not just on continuing the Destiny universe, but because we’ve been able to build such a deep bench of talent, these incubations are really amazing."
Bungie CEO Teases Non-Destiny Projects
"I think you will be pretty excited. I wish I could say more, but I think you will be pretty excited," Parsons teased.
While Bungie has been working on Destiny and its sequel for several years now (the first game launched in 2014, but was in development much earlier than that), it's no secret that the developer has ambitions of supporting multiple internal teams.
The company's other project, Matter, is supposedly a light-hearted and whimsical affair according to job postings.
“Are you on a mission to create games that bond players together into deeply invested communities? Would you like to work on something comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters?" reads one such posting for an Incubation Art Director.
An Incubation Investment Designer job listing suggests the game could offer some loot elements.
“You are the glue between the sword and the reward. You will work in tandem with our sandbox and economy teams to build and distribute items to our players. Living inside a giant database of hundreds of baubles, weapons, and armor is nothing new to you. And neither is building a system to cleverly distribute those items in a necromancer's dungeon.”
Whether Matter forms an "incubation" that Parsons is talking about is another matter.
