Beyond Light is here, and after a thrilling World's First Raid race last weekend, we now know what to expect.
The Deep Stone Crypt is undoubtedly a challenging raid, but with the chance to earn exotics like the Eyes of Tomorrow Rocket Launcher, it's well worth attempting.
Here's how to prepare for the raid, and how to beat each encounter.
Needless to say, there are spoilers ahead.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Loadouts
Preparation is everything, and with that in mind, you'll want to get your gear to as high a level as possible, while also equipping Overload rounds.
The Power Level requirement is 1230, but any higher you can climb will benefit you in the final encounter with a Power Level of 1250 for the big boss.
Classes
Titans will want to use the Void subclass to allow for shielding, particularly later in the raid. The Weapons of Light buff will also help deal bonus damage.
Hunters can even be focused on crowd control or pure DPS, so Pathfinder or Sharpshooter builds are the order of the day.
Warlocks, you should really use Well of Radiance – with Phoenix Protocol if you have it.
Weapons
We can recommend the following:
- Riskrunner
- Witherhoard
- Izanagi's Burden
- Xenophage
- Falling Guillotine (or Lament, if you have it)
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Roles
There are three roles (Augments) within Deep Stone Crypt, coloured red, yellow and blue.
Red - Operator
A buff that's ideal for shooting things, your sharpest shooters should be Operators.
Yellow - Scanner
Essentially calling the shots for Operators, Scanners should be key communicators.
Blue - Suppressor
Suppressors will be shooting bosses to allow Scanners to deposit Nuclear Cores in some encounters.
Be prepared to switch through these using terminals in each encounter. Players can only hold one Augment at a time, as can terminals, so you'll need to do somewhat of a dance to get them spread between Guardians.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Walkthrough - Phase One
Phase one of the raid involves getting to the raid, believe it or not.
Teams will need to push through a snowstorm that adds a debuff called Frostbite to Guardians. Once you reach 10 stacks of Frostbite, you'll be killed, and you can get rid of them by reaching red bubbles in the area.
Once you get to the end, kill the two Brigs and Fallen guarding the entrance.
The first secret chest is on a ridge just outside of the encounter, but the debuff is still in effect so you'll need to move quickly.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Walkthrough - Phase Two
Check out Datto's guide below:
Remember those roles we discussed earlier? You'll need Operators and Scanners for this one.
Split your team into the following roles:
Team 1
- Operator
- Scanner
- Free Guardian
Team 2
- Scanner
- Free Guardian
- Free Guardian
Your Operator will need to head into a basement to kick off the encounter, and they'll be destroying panels identified by the Scanners.
Two Guardians will need to take up positions on each side of the wall dividing the two areas and share the Operator Augment between them using a terminal, calling out two panels each per phase.
After that's done, the Operator can pass their Augment upwards and the Scanner can send theirs down, so the Operator can call out a fuse which anyone above can destroy.
Destroy all of them (six) to progress, but if another phase begins, you'll need to swap the Augments back again.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Walkthrough - Phase Three
Enjoy that? Good, the next encounter (against Atraks-1) is similar.
Again, you'll be using the Operator and Scanner Augments. Your Operator will be on the "Space" team, while you'll need a Scanner on each team.
Grab the purple orb to kick things off, and Space team (with the Operator) can use escape pods. Shoot the panels to send the pods back.
Scanner on Space team will need to identify the correct clone to take out, sending the Augment to ground team, while Space player (not the Operator) will need to hold the purple orb.
This awards the Atraks-1 Replication debuff.
Ground team's Scanner kills the clone and sends the Scanner Augment back to space.
A member of the ground team needs to grab the purple orb and take it to space, where the Operator can shoot the debuff off of players.
Once more clones are killed, and Atraks-1 hits 25% health, all of Ground team needs to head to space and identify a clone to kill.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Walkthrough - Phase Four
Good news – this next step is much easier.
You'll need to move through the space ship until you find a "windmill" with two paths. The left one heads to a secret chest, above platforms with red lights.
Head back and go right instead to move on.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Walkthrough - Phase Five
Here's Datto's excellent guide:
This time, divvy your squad up into three duos.
You'll have Operators, Scanners and Suppressors in play, and killing specified enemies will provide your buff.
Scanners will need to identify boxes to deposit Nuclear Cores, while Operators spawn these by shooting red panels.
Suppressors will unlock the boxes by getting under the turrets in the area and shooting the boss.
Nuclear Cores have a Radiation debuff attached that stops players running and double-jumping, and when it stacks to 10, it can kill Guardians.
You can only deposit one per box, too.
After two cores, one of the Augments will switch off and must be put into the Terminal and be switched to another player.
Eventually, you'll be able to drop into a hatch that opens, where Taniks will chase players and instantly kill them if they don't move quickly enough.
Destiny 2 Deep Stone Crypt Walkthrough - Phase Six - Taniks Boss Battle
Guess what? You'll need to split into three again.
Again, Scanners will need to identify boxes to deposit Nuclear Cores. This time, the cores are spawned by shooting Taniks' thrusters when he uses his purple laser attack.
Operators free players when they're caught in purple bubbles, while Suppressors, once again, are tasked with standing under the turrets and shooting the boss.
Anyone without a buff needs to move Nuclear Cores to the designated boxes (don't forget the debuff), and once four cores are deposited, it's time to deal damage by firing at Taniks from between his two shields.
At 25% health, Taniks will bounce around the arena via teleport – do not stop shooting!
