After months of unrest, Activision Blizzard has announced that all of its US-based Quality Assurance (QA) testers are becoming full-time employees with the company. The QA testers will integrate into Activision Blizzard as full-time employees on July 1, with a salary of $20 an hour.
Here’s a statement about the news from Activision Blizzard, courtesy of VGC:
“Today we announced the conversion of all US-based temporary and contingent QA team members at Activision Publishing and Blizzard – nearly 1,100 people in total – to permanent full-time employees starting on July 1.”

Unfortunately, QA Testers from Raven Software who decided to unionise in the Game Workers Alliance and beyond won’t receive such raises. A spokesperson told Jason Schreier of Bloomberg that Unionized QA testers won’t earn a raise "due to our legal obligations under the National Labor Relations Act.”
It’s clear that the news has led to a mixed reception, due to the exclusion of these benefits for Unionized QA Testers. More details will likely come from the Game Workers Alliance or even Activision Blizzard themselves, so stay tuned as the story continues to develop.
