The Game Awards is were dreams come true and were bizarre collaborations come to life and no better example than the announced Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover.
As a part of Season 19, titled Ignite, Square Enix and EA have decided to collaborate through the battle royale game to promote the upcoming release of FF7 Rebirth. The continuation of a reimagined Final Fantasy 7 story is one of the most anticipated games of 2024 and is set to release on February 29th.
Usually you'd see Epic Games and Fortnite be the beacon for all types of crossovers, this time Apex Legends is certainly a better fit in the eyes of Square Enix, especially considering the game's immense popularity in Japan. The 2021 Japan Legacy event is a clear indication of just how much Apex Legends has taken off in Asia.
In the trailer shown at TGA, we can see Horizon analysing a fallen Buster Sword, Cloud Strife's (and previously Zack Fair's) iconic weapon, stuck to the ground. Crypto then picks up the bulky sword as he strikes the classic Cloud pose used after winning a battle in the original FF7.
It's safe to assume that the Buster Sword will become a weapon of sorts, or perhaps a new Heirloom for Crypto in Apex Legends when the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover starts on January 9.
Key art for the event also showcases Horizon, Crypto, and Wraith wearing Final Fantasy 7-inspired skins. Horizon wears a classic Aerith outfit, Crypto can be seen as Cloud, and Wraith as Vincent Valentine.
When we get more solid information about the event, you can rest assured we'll be updating you accordingly. It's still over a month away so sit tight.
