While many RPG fans have their sights firmly set on the release of Starfield in September, Baldur’s Gate 3 has also been earning a lot of attention ahead of its full release.
Promising plenty of cool quests and battles, the game is bound to attract a legion of loyal PC players upon arrival, many of whom have recently been busy planning out the builds they’ll be using for their first playthroughs.
Over the past few days, Larian has been guiding players through the complex process required to set up the game’s full release version. With the arrival of it now imminent, some Baldur’s Gate veterans have decided to share their favourite memories from the game’s early access period.
Have you been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 from day one of its early access period?
Over on r/BaldursGate3, user serpentear kicked off this bout of fond reminiscing by penning a post entitled “To all [of] my early access homies,” which saw them begin by saying: “We left our mark and your feedback was critical to moulding this game into what we will see tomorrow.”
“We’ve seen it all,” they declared, running down a list of memorable bugs and events including companions attempting to run up invisible ladders and the community showing so much love for Halsin that the developers ended up making him available as one.
Serpentear rounded off the post by affirming: “It’s been a pleasure to share this experience with y’all. We’ll always have early access together. Tomorrow though, tomorrow we wipe the slate clean and finally, finally get to play for real.”
Naturally, many of their fellow early access veterans have since shared the experiences that they’ll remember the period for in replies to the post.
“Over the course of three years, I went from [thinking] ‘There's absolutely no way [Larian] can capture the spirit of Dungeons and Dragons if they continue on this path,' to being fairly confident the game will be one of, if [not] the best RPG experience of the past 20 years,” mused user thedrizztman, a day one player.
Similarly, user GraveKeeperClaire recalled: “Honestly the craziest part of playing early access early on then coming back later is how people really did not like Shadowheart back then, and now she's a fan favourite.”
Meanwhile, user ShungieShrieks put together a separate post paying respects to people who were looking forward to the game’s full release, but unfortunately didn’t live to see it, citing their late brother as an example.
The comments have seen a number of players pay similar tribute to folks from their lives, all of which are as touching and heartfelt as you'd imagine.
