Gamescom 2024 kicked off guns blazing by showcasing a reveal trailer for the much anticipated Borderlands 4. Developed by Gearbox Entertainment and published by 2K Games, the short trailer presents an eerie and intriguing cinematic and confirms which platforms the game will come out on.

Ever since the team behind the game dropped a hint that Borderlands 4 may be the "greatest thing they've ever done," excitement has certainly been at an all-time high. However, some fans may be disappointed with this latest confirmation of which consoles the game won't be coming out on.

Which Platforms is Borderlands 4 coming out on?

Borderlands 4 will be released in 2025 and available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Unfortunately, as with many upcoming releases, the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch are noticeably absent from this lineup.

Gamers using last-gen consoles getting the short end of the stick is nothing new; in fact, it's honestly expected for a triple-A 2025 release. However, this may also mean that Borderlands 4 will require higher-end PC specs to run properly, though system requirements have not yet been confirmed.

This is an unfortunate footnote on an otherwise exciting announcement; one meant to capitalize on the presumed hype of the recently released Borderlands movie. With the film still in theatres, it's not ideal that many new and old fans won't be able to experience the next phase of Borderlands unless they have access to the latest-gen hardware.

On a brighter note, fans can add Borderlands 4 to your Steam wishlist. To stay updated with the latest on Borderlands, check out our coverage regarding the Borderlands 4 developers being acquired by Take-Two.
