On March 22, 2023, Valve unveiled Counter Strike 2 to the world while Epic Games demonstrated the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) which enables fans to create entirely new games that integrate into the battle royale. In comparison to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, the announcements completely overshadowed Call of Duty’s latest offerings.
Despite the Season Three update moving into view, the immense potential of UEFN combined with Valve refining the iconic tactical shooter left Call of Duty fans feeling frustrated with Activision and Infinity Ward.
Following the announcements, players started sharing their frustrations with the current state of the CoD franchise.
Is Call of Duty struggling?
Reddit user vinny7299 is “livid” with the situation CoD finds itself in after Valve and Epic Games unveiled major long-term plans. “Counter Strike 2: A full update of the original CSGO game. Fortnite’s creative 2.0: A major update to the creative side of Fortnite. COD MW2: Removed 10v10 for no reason.”
Although Modern Warfare 2 is one of the franchise’s best-selling titles, there are many who believe the game is far inferior to what Valve and Epic Games plan on offering. “This game sucks. Maps are trash, respawns are trash, unbalanced weapons. I really got conned into buying a COD game,” comments one unhappy customer.

While CoD fans continue to share frustrations with the lack of direction, UEFN already contains a variety of game modes and it’s safe to say it already looks like a lot of fun.
On the other hand, these announcements from Valve and Epic Games give Activision an incentive to reinvigorate the Call of Duty franchise to its former glory. There are still three seasons for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, which is plenty of time to improve multiplayer and the battle royale.
