The Call of Duty franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the launch of Modern Warfare 3. To mark the occasion, Sledgehammer Games has remastered all 16 launch maps from 2009's Modern Warfare 2, sending players on a trip down memory lane.
Before the Call of Duty Next event, many are looking forward to seeing what the beta has in store, and whether Sledgehammer Games can deliver another dose of fast-paced action.
While all eyes are on the first opportunity for players to load into Modern Warfare 3, Activision has revealed it already has plans for future Call of Duty titles in place until 2027 at the earliest.
Call of Duty titles to launch through 2027
In a recent Venture Beat interview, Activision president Rob Kostich put any doubts surrounding Call of Duty's future to rest.
Kostich reveals: "Right now, we have games planned out all the way through '27 for the things that we're working on." In addition to announcing work for the next four Call of Duty titles is underway, Kostich shared Activision has 3,000 developers who are actively working on the hugely popular first-person shooter series.
As for any clues surrounding what future Call of Duty titles will feature, Kostich remained tight-lipped, but believes the future of the franchise is bright: "I think we've done a lot of games in the future. We probably went as fast as we possibly could. We made some of the games in the past. You start to see the sweet spot over time and what really resonates with the community."
So, there's a possibility of the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series continuing for a little while longer. Of course, we'll have to wait for official reveals to see what Activision has in store.
