Destiny's rumoured upcoming expansion has been getting a lot of leaks recently, it seems. First we heard a couple of weeks ago that trademarks had been filed for "The Taken King" by the company, leading to intense speculation that the new September content would be packaged under that name.
Now, an interesting story published by Kotaku last night has provided an additional confirmation on the name, as well as a tentative release date of September 15th, 2015. According to Kotaku leaked marketing materials were sent to them ahead of E3 confirming the title, release date and a whole host of details on what the content of the expansion will pertain to.
According to the marketing materials, The Taken King will cost $40 on launch, and contain new playable sub-classes for each of the three character classes in the game - Hunter, Warlock and Titan. Warlocks are to receive an arc electrical storm super abiliy, Hunters will gain a void gravity bow, and Titans will bolster their arsenals with a solar flaming hammer. These elements match up with the missing damage types in each character class right now, so it all seems to fit.
New Strikes and PvP maps have also been cited as joining Destiny's content portfolio. The marketing materials stated that The Taken King will also feature a brand new, full 6-player raid pitting Guardians against Oryx, Crota's big daddy, who will lead an army known as "The Taken".
Whether this leak will play out to be accurate or not is yet to be seen, but it certainly sounds credibly based on speculation by dedicated Destiny players. Either way, we most likely won't need to wait particularly long to find out. E3 is next week, and it wouldn't be at all surprising to see Destiny present and unveiling their new expansion at the event. Stay tuned.
