While Fallout 4 is constantly receiving new mods that bring interesting things like friendly drones, classic laser pistols and even terrifying mechanised troops to The Commonwealth, sometimes you can’t beat delving back into Fallout New Vegas.
After all, with TVs to watch, parties to throw and alien invasions to fight off, the Mojave has plenty to keep you entertained while you wait for Starfield or Skyblivion to finally arrive.
If you’re a big fan of the vampires found in games like Skyrim and The Witcher 3, a new mod, which gives you the chance to turn your courier into a bloodthirsty monster, might be worth taking a look at.
Fancy roleplaying as Count Dracula during your next New Vegas playthrough?
The mod in question is called ‘Wasteland Vampire - Vampirism of the Wastes’ and is the work of modder seldalore, whose previous work has made New Vegas’ NPCs less effective markspeople and given you the chance to play as one of the Dead Money DLC’s ghost people.
This time, they’ve decided to add an optional trait to the game called ‘Wasteland Vampirism’, which, according to the mod’s description, will imbue your character with a range of traditional vampiric strengths and weaknesses designed to work alongside the needs you have to manage if you enable hardcore mode.
For example, as soon as you’ve bitten the bullet in Goodsprings and emerged from Doc Mitchell’s house with the perk active, any dead human enemies you encounter or kill yourself will have a new item called ‘Fresh Blood’ in their inventory, which will instantly heal and restore the dehydration values of vampiric characters when consumed, in addition to ridding you of the ‘Bloodstarved’ drug withdrawal effect.
If you fail to ensure you don’t become bloodstarved, you’ll take major hits to your damage resistance, radiation resistance and charisma, with blood packs not being of any help in alleviating these effects.
Adding an extra challenge to your quest to regularly slurp on the red stuff is the fact that going outside during daylight hours will significantly lower your strength and endurance, in addition to seeing you suffer gradually worsening radiation damage in the hours approaching midday.
That said, while indoors or roaming the wastes under cover of darkness without suffering from blood withdrawal, you’ll benefit from significant boosts to stats like health, carry weight and damage threshold, which will stack on top of permanent vampiric boons like increased movement speed and the ability to breathe underwater.
If you’re ready to offer up your neck just to see what’s at the bottom of Lake Mead, you’ll first need to grab jazzisparis and LuthienAnarion’s ‘JIP LN NVSE Plugin’, plus its requirements.
