After years of waiting, Xbox owners will soon get a taste of what Final Fantasy XIV will be like on their system. While it’s not an official release date, Xbox players will get an open beta for the popular MMO early next year.
The MMO’s official Twitter confirmed that XIV’s open beta test is currently scheduled to begin in mid-January to February. Either way, it’s early 2024 so Xbox players can mark their calendars and make room for their consoles.
Currently, the official release for Final Fantasy XIV is set for Spring 2024, though this will be the first time Xbox players will try the game out. Details on what to expect in the open beta haven’t been revealed, though we assume players will be able to make progress until a specific point in the story.
With over a decade’s worth of content, it will be interesting to see if players are intimidated by the scope of this MMO. Then again, since most Xbox players will be new to this, they can all experience the beginning of this adventure together.
Final Fantasy XIV has been home to a number of expansions, with more coming, including the anime beach episode-esque Dawntrail. Xbox players will have a lot of content to churn through, assuming they have the time, money, and friends to do so with. While Square Enix has made a number of the story chapters doable in solo mode, the MMO is best experienced with friends.
Players who are hesitant to part with their wallet will be happy to know that the Xbox Series will have access to the free trial. As the meme goes, players will be able to reach Level 70 and even play through some of the expansions, like Shadowbringers. Square Enix even plans on adding more content to the free trial, though it’ll never go free-to-play.
