Fortnite is no stranger to gaming crossovers and Final Fantasy could be the next big collaboration Epic Games has lined up according to rumours.
A recent leak by XboxEra stated that Epic Games is currently working on several collaborations, including a highly anticipated One Piece crossover. Among the names, Final Fantasy stands out, as the iconic Square Enix franchise is surprisingly still missing from the battle royale.
It shouldn't come as a big shock, especially considering that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is just a few weeks away, set for release on February 29. What could surprise you is that this wouldn't be the first time Final Fantasy shows up in a battle royale, with Apex Legends stealing Fortnite's thunder in this regard.
The Respawn battle royale just had an event featuring cosmetics themed around Final Fantasy 7 characters to promote the upcoming Rebirth title. Unless Epic Games decides to essentially shadow-drop this collab with little to no notice, it's highly unlikely we'll see this one before the game releases, however.
Square Enix has worked with Epic Games in the past, bringing the Lara Croft skin in 2021 before they sold the rights to the franchise and the studios that developed the recent trilogy, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, to Embracer.
FF7 has no shortage of iconic characters that could make good Fortnite skins. Of course, the main protagonist of the game, Cloud Strife, will take up a spot. The big nemesis, Sephiroth, could be a solid candidate, as well as the likes of Tifa, Aerith, and Barret.
Usually, when new collabs drop in Fortnite, we see around three to four different skins, so expect the same when Final Fantasy 7 characters drop into the battle royale.
Once we find out more about this crossover we'll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, if you're excited about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, check out how to download the demo and whether your progress will carry over to the main game.
