Xbox fans were concerned when Gears of War: E-Day was absent from the most recent Developer Direct. Luckily, the highly-anticipated third-person shooter just got a promising update, as a familiar developer is helping The Coalition with the game. While there isn’t a release date, knowing that some talented people are working on it excites us.
People Can Fly has announced that they are co-developing E-Day with The Coalition, ensuring that the shooter will be of similar qualities to previous entries. Fans of the franchise know that this studio has worked on the Gears series before, working on the first three games and 2013’s Gears of War: Judgement. Considering how E-Day is supposed to be a return to form for the series, bringing this studio back is an ideal choice.
Beyond working on Gears of War: E-Day and previous games in the series, People Can Fly also made the underrated Painkiller back in 2004. They also worked on the popular 2011 shooter Bulletstorm, which has been re-released for modern systems. Granted, they also worked on the live-service shooter Outriders, but no one has a perfect track record.
Seeing the series return to its roots in multiple ways has made fans happy. Many felt that the fourth and fifth games were veering away from what made the series special in the first place. Some fans would argue that the series should have ended a while ago, but Xbox needs something for players to latch onto.
Gears of War: E-Day impressed fans right away with its trailer, going back to the early days of series protagonist Marcus Fenix. The trailer supposedly ran on this shooter’s in-game graphics, but we’ll have to see that to believe it. Nostalgic fans were also happy to hear some notes from the classic song “Mad World,” which was in the first game’s iconic trailer.
