A Former Sony Employee Is Suing PlayStation for Gender Discrimination

Sony Interactive Entertainment is facing a class action discrimination lawsuit from a former IT security analyst. Axios reports that the claimant, Emma Majo, says the entertainment giant wrongfully terminated her employment after she spoke up about discrimination she and other women faced at the company.

The news comes in the midst of ongoing discrimination and harassment lawsuits against Activision Blizzard and less than a week after Sony CEO Jim Ryan condemned ActiBlizz CEO Bobby Kotick's response to those claims.

Majo said Sony paid men higher salaries despite them performing the same work and that the company denied women the opportunity for promotions. Her suit also alleges other instances of discrimination, including sexist speech and behavior.

Sony fired Majo earlier in 2021, shortly after she submitted a signed statement outlining instances of discrimination she faced in the workplace. Sony claims her termination was part of wider layoffs as they closed her department, but Majo said she wasn't even part of that department.

Majo submitted her complaint to the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the same entity that first sued Activision Blizzard in July, and made it a class action lawsuit so any other women who experienced discrimination at Sony an want to come forward to add their names may do so.
