While some GTA players are still trying to enjoy everything that Los Santos has to offer by getting up to wacky hijinks and spending all of their hard-earned cash, others are already looking forward to GTA 6.
For some, this has involved coming up with potential ideas for its soundtrack, working out how a social hub like Red Dead Redemption 2’s gang camp could fit into it or intensely debating whether the game’s first trailer will be released this month.
However, the primary desire of some long-time players when it comes to the series’ next entry is simple. They just want playing it to remind them of all of the hours they’ve spent exploring San Andreas as CJ.
Do you think GTA 6 should aim to emulate San Andreas’ sense of scale?
This sentiment is the subject of a recent thread on the GTA 6 subreddit, which began with a post from user teh_mICON, who said that what they want from GTA 6 is: “A game that features multiple smaller cities where it's worth flying between them and not one city with like a couple of hick buildings on the other side of the map that feel like an afterthought.”
They cited GTA San Andreas as the perfect example of such a game, saying that having multiple sizeable settlements that feel worth travelling to: “makes the game feel so much more alive”, adding: “GTA IV was great too despite being literally just one city, but it didn't capture the sense of scale that San Andreas had.”
The vast majority of their fellow players seemed to wholeheartedly agree, with user Luf2222 saying: “no (GTA) map so far has been able to live up to San Andreas’ map” and adding: “It feels big (even though it's small in reality), you have three cities, the desert, the countryside (and) every city has (its) own ‘feeling’.”
User Naphor also agreed, while stressing that if any extra locations are added via DLC, how they’re connected to the existing map will be key to maintaining the much sought-after San Andreas atmosphere.
Meanwhile, user Trane55 reminisced: “I still remember the feeling of getting into San Fierro for the first time…. like a whole new vibe, it felt super fresh, and the same happened with Las Venturas.”
