If Arrowhead Studios had problems trying to cope with the user demand crashing the Helldivers 2 servers, a recent leak showcasing mechs might make things worse for the developers.
Uploaded to the official Helldivers 2 subreddit, user Fozzye18 shared leaked footage of a player using a mech in the game. The footage has garnered a ton of attention, with over 6.5k upvotes at the time of writing.
If you're a veteran Helldivers player, you might remember that mechs were part of the gameplay loop and have been surprisingly missing from the initial launch of the sequel.
After the leak, an Arrowhead Studios developer stated via the official Discord server that mechs are being worked on, but progress has been slow due to the vast majority of the team dedicating their efforts to fix the server issues that have plagued the game.
Mechs been good to go for a while. There’s still some additional polishing being done by people who can’t assist with server issues
Helldivers 2 has broken all sorts of records for Arrowhead Studios, becoming a massive success on both PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5. It's quickly become the most-played PlayStation game on PC ever, and the concurrent players on Steam peaked at over 400k users.
We'll have to wait for official confirmation by Arrowhead Studios when it comes to mechs being added to the game. Recently, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt explained that the team will share a Helldivers 2 roadmap in the near future.
The reason why it's taken the devs so long to get a roadmap out is that the ambition of the team has grown exponentially due to the massive success they've found with Helldivers 2.
If fans are lucky, that roadmap will drop sooner rather than later and it will include confirmation of mechs finally making it into the game.
