Releasing first on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC, Hogwarts Legacy was a technical marvel on release. With the game since being well-converted to Xbox One and PS5, there were still qualms about the long-delayed Hogwarts Legacy Switch port and — surprise — it’s looking good!
Following some truly rancid ports of games to the Nintendo Switch, such as Ark: Survival Evolved, many were expecting a putrid experience on the aging handheld. Not only is that not the case, but new screenshots show a fairly decent presentation for the year-old Potter game.
The new Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch screenshots show obviously paired back texture and model quality. For example, the game’s clothes are noticeably smooth without the fine texture of cloth or leather that was found in the bigger console versions.
Another shot of the room of requirement shows some noticeably low-quality textures on the floor with massively simplified wood surfaces across the room’s horde of chests and boxes. However, it all looks extremely passable for such a big game being stuffed into a handheld that was technically outdated when it released.
Via VGC, Warner Bros believes that the new Hogwarts Legacy Switch port will be a top seller for the system. In fact, there’s hope its international appeal will even be bigger than its console and PC versions.
“We see that as probably a much bigger install base and a fan base that, as relates to the franchise of Harry Potter, which obviously appeals to a very big audience globally, and in markets like Japan where Nintendohas a big footprint and Harry Potter skews very strongly in terms of popularity,” said Warner Bros Discovery CEO JB Perrette.
Releasing on November 14, Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch is the final release for the Wizarding World game, at least until the Nintendo Switch 2 launches next year.
Of course, it’s worth noting that the game’s original launch was under scrutiny due to the large number of transphobic comments and actions from Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling. The controversies led to a mass boycott of the Harry Potter game.
