The interesting creations of Minecraft players are one of the ever-popular game’s most important elements, no matter whether the thing being replicated in block form is a futuristic cricket stadium, GTA Online’s Diamond Casino or a working kebab machine.
However, now it seems as though the game’s newest impressive build is a historically-inspired one, constructed as part of a new partnership following The Wild Update.
That’s right, Minecraft publisher Microsoft has teamed up with English conservation organisation the National Trust to reproduce an impressive Dorset landmark.
King Of the Minecraft Castle
The landmark in question is Corfe Castle, the ruins of which are playing host to a National Trust Festival of Archaeology, though the version that you’ll be able to download in Minecraft will have been restored a bit.
The individual responsible for this medieval renovation is popular YouTuber Grian, who got some help from National Trust archaeologist Martin Papworth, with the finished work being showcased in a hero video hosted by presenter and historian Alice Loxton.
“It was a great experience working with the National Trust to rebuild Corfe Castle in Minecraft.”, said Grian of the build, adding: “This project was right up my alley in terms of interests. I look forward to seeing how people rebuild the ruins in their own way.”
As alluded to, regular Minecraft players are being given a chance to take Grian’s creation and modify it to craft their own re-imagining of the castle, with it being available as a download on Minecraft’s marketplace starting this weekend.
This is a key part of the partnership’s ultimate goal, which Papworth describes as being to “see young people engaging with the UK’s rich historical heritage through the help of technology.”
In the long term, this goal will also see a “Minecraft Education Edition package of the experience” developed, which will help school children across the country, some of whom may not have discovered the wonders of Minecraft yet, to have a go at castle redevelopment.
