The riot shield is one of the very best melee weapons to use in Modern Warfare 2. Thanks to its ability to block incoming gunfire, it’s perfect for players looking for an additional layer of protection against the incredibly fast time to kill.
In some cases, the shields are the cause of game-breaking bugs and glitches and just a few days into the cycle, players are discovering how to gain a huge advantage over the opposition.
This particular exploit using the riot shield allows players to become invincible, giving them the ability to stay alive for the rest of the game.
Modern Warfare 2 god mode bug ruining matches
The cause of the bug involves the riot shield and an enemy VTOL Jet patrolling the skies. If the VTOL locks onto the shield-wielding player, it doesn’t attack them. Reddit user “Hydra_GER12” encounters an invincible player and calls on the developer to “deactivate the riot shield” until the problem is fixed.
The short clip shows the player attempting to score the kill with a Kastov 74u and despite the riot shield appearing on the back of the player, there’s no sign of any hitmarkers dealing any kind of damage.
With the potential for the god mode bug to break multiplayer, many are hoping Infinity Ward acts quickly in order to address the issue. One commenter says the issue is “a known bug” suggesting the developer is already working on a fix.

This isn’t the only game-breaking exploit causing chaos in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. Players using a bipod attachment can fly into the air when crouching on top of a car. There’s no fall damage which gives them the perfect way to get behind enemy lines.
While we wait for a fix, we recommend staying away from anyone using a riot shield as they’re probably impossible to kill. In the meantime, check out our guides showcasing the best Modern Warfare 2 SMG and all the latest intel on Modern Warfare 2 double XP events.
