Modern Warfare 3 players believe the 2023 reboot isn't a return to the old-school gameplay many have been longing for.

With players loading into the recent beta, Modern Warfare 3 large range of movement changes designed to increase the pace of play, such as the return of the slide cancel mechanic, has been praised by some fans. However, others believe it’s it's a far cry from the simplicity of Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Expectations for Sledgehammer Games' latest release are high after the developer’s history of mediocrity. While some are enjoying the faster gameplay, others are calling on their fellow players to stop claiming Modern Warfare 3 feels like a Call of Duty title from several years ago.

To share their frustrations, user MonkeyAAA1212 took to Reddit talking about Call of Duty's evolution.

The player asks: "Can we please for the love of everything holy stop acting like this is somehow a return to the classic old-school feeling? MWIII is FAR faster paced than any old-school classic CoD."

Other franchise fans are in agreeance. Although the maps are ripped from 2009's Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 is significantly different from the early days of what has since become the vest first-person shooter series on the market. One player says: "Glad I'm not the only one, I seem to remember the TTK in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) to be quite fast." Another adds: "AK47 with Stopping Power were a 2-shot kill. Modern CoD players would absolutely s**t their pants over that."

Previous Call of Duty titles have featured lightning-fast times to kill in addition to perks that increased damage output even further. For Modern Warfare 3, all of that has gone, bringing the game even further away from the simplistic boots-on-the-ground action from the late 2000s.

Although Modern Warfare 3 isn't anywhere near the classic nature of the Call of Duty franchise, it certainly has the potential to be one of the better releases of recent times. It may not be old-school, but it's definitely a lot of fun.
