Mortal Kombat 1 may have launched with an array of familiar characters in its roster, but cyborgs Sektor and Cyrax were only relegated to Kameo fighters who could only assist during matches. Thanks to Khaos Reigns, the two are ready to come in as playable fighters.
Cyrax had gotten the spotlight a few weeks ago, and now Sektor gets her time to shine.
Sektor Official Gameplay Revealed
In a new gameplay trailer, NetherRealm Studios looks at Sektor’s moves list and her motivation for the Khaos Reigns event.
This is also the official character description for Sektor courtesy of WB Games (via IGN):
“In Fire God Liu Kang’s New Era, Sektor grew up immersed in Lin Kuei culture – her father was its master armorer, and her mother was a leading warrior. This vast knowledge of weaponry and formidable martial skills passed down from her parents make Sektor a kombatant like no other. Sensing a kindred spirit, Sub-Zero shared with her his grand vision for the Lin Kuei's future and chose her to become his most trusted lieutenant. Now Sektor will force the Lin Kuei to evolve and those who cannot change will be eliminated.”
Besides the Sektor reveal, there is also the confirmation that ‘Animalities’ will be coming back and will be free for every character.
Based on the preview for Cyrax, it does look like Sektor is the more experienced fighter when it comes to using this specialized armor. While Cyrax is shown to question the motives of the Lin Kuei, it does seem that Sektor is more keen on following through with Bi-Han’s original plans.
Changes to Sektor and Cyrax
Originally, Sektor and Cyrax were introduced as cyborgs in Mortal Kombat and each had a special array of weapons that they have stored within their bodies. Though the games have changed over the years to reveal human forms for Sektor and Cyrax, this new timeline established by Fire God Liu Kang has revamped the two Cyber Lin Kuei so that they are humans donning advanced high-tech armor.
The two still have access to multiple weapons, but it does seem that their choice of gadgets is pretty different when it comes to gameplay. Cyrax may be more keen to lay down traps and use blades, but Sektor looks to have more destructive weapons like missiles and flame throwers; not to mention, she can fly.
Fans admit that the pair may be too ‘Iron Man-coded’ with this revamp, but Mortal Kombat has always been an homage to popular fantastical genres, and a superhero-coded fighter isn’t the weirdest thing to happen to the franchise.
Kombat Pack 2
The Kombat Pack 2 for the Khaos Reigns expansion promises to come with six DLC characters. Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot are expected to be layable at launch, but there will also be three more guest-characters that will have their own release dates with Ghostface (the Scream movies), Conan the Barbarian (from the Conan movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger), and the T-1000 (from Terminator 2: Judgement Day).
Pre-ordering the expansion will also give players some exclusive skinds for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, and Noob Saibot:
Khaos Reigns launches on Mortal Kombat 1 on Sept. 24. The game is now playable for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
