Palworld Losing 97% of Player Base Not a Cause of Concern

After a stellar rise in concurrent player count in January, Palworld recently saw a 97% drop in its player base. However, many say that this is not a cause of concern.

Palworld broke barriers when it launched in January, leading to discussions about a PlayStation port. The game famously reached 8 million players in just 8 hours after becoming available across multiple platforms, which include Xbox, GamePass, and Steam.

However, just three months after its debut, Palworld has seen its worst player count decline. According to Steam DB, 97% of the players that made up its base have left the game, leading to a concurrent player peak of just above 63,000 as of the time of writing.

Despite the significant difference between today’s numbers and those during its celebrated launch in January, it appears to be a temporary hiccup for the monster game. Experts predict that player counts will still sporadically increase in the next few months, given the changes promised by the development team’s 2024 roadmap.

Pocket Pair revealed on the official Palworld X account in late January that they will be working on several additions, including player versus player and Xbox-Steam crossplay. The former will finally enable players to pit their monster buddies against the others, while the latter will allow players to keep their progress when alternating game platforms.

The crossplaying feature will allow players from both platforms to converge in one server for future multiplayer combat.

Palworld also maintains a positive reputation on Steam. It currently has a Positive score, with 92.94% of the roughly 288,000 reviews of the game entered on the platform being favorable.

Palworld may have fewer than 70,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the upcoming updates may help bring that number back to 100,000 or more in the near future.
