It looks like The Pokémon Company is going to take criticism of Scarlet and Violet going forward, with the success of Palworld potentially escalating that feeling. While the latter doesn’t necessarily inform the former, recent reports suggest that Palworld might end up affecting the next Pokémon game in a good way.
Andy Robinson of VGC claims that The Pokémon Company will be taking the complaints of Scarlet and Violet seriously moving forward. This comes after Robinson said that he doesn’t think the company will take action against Pocket Pair, Inc. though the competitor’s success can’t be denied.
For those unfamiliar with the criticisms, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet continue to take criticisms to this day, due to the game’s poor performance and buggy launch. While most fans agree that the general gameplay is pretty good and the characters are pretty likable, they’re all stuck games that should look and play better.
Bad performance aside, Scarlet and Violet ended up selling a ton of copies, quickly becoming the fastest-selling Switch exclusives for a while. DLC for the games was also recently released, adding even more monsters to catch and actual hard battles to take part in.
Even though it plays differently, Palword seems to be scratching that itch fans wanted from a next-generation Pokémon game. It’s still mostly a survival game with creature catching but that’s enough to get the attention of distraught Pokémon fans. Add the fact that this game fulfills the meme of “Pokémon with guns” and this game is an easy recipe for success.
Despite what Robinson said about The Pokémon Company not taking any action, a statement was released, claiming that they would investigate their competitor. This could just be a fluff statement so that people will leave them alone, but the allegations of plagiarism and AI should be taken seriously.
