Modders have put an awful lot of effort into making sure Skyrim has continually evolved and expanded in the years since it was first released into the world.
Many have focused on changing the game by adding new unmarked locations, incredibly stealthy manoeuvres and tougher bandits to it, with a few even going as far as completely rejuvenating the unique abilities offered to each of Tamriel’s races or giving you the chance to become high priest of your own temple.
If you’re a player who prefers your Skyrim experience to be a little bit more surreal and fantastical, but you don’t quite fancy achieving this by moving into a fort made of cheese wheels, a new mod might be worth taking a look at.
Ever thought Skyrim’s skies could do with featuring some floating fish?
The mod in question is called ‘Snow Whales and Flying Rays- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version)’, and is the work of prolific modder MihailMods. Some of their previous projects have filled the Forgotten Vale with Snow Elf zombies and added a bunch of spooky spectres to Skyrim.
This time, they’ve decided to combine their popular works ‘Snow Whales- Mihail Monsters and Animals (SE-AE version)’ and ‘Snowrays- Mihail Monsters and Animal (SE-AE version) (''shadowkey'')’ into one ultimate flying fish-focused file that can help slim down your load order.
Within this new compilation mod, you’ll find two different kinds of airborne aquatic life, the first of which being gigantic snow whales, which you can get a look at in the showcase video below and are designed to fit into the world as rare creatures that were almost hunted to extinction by the ancient Nords.
The other type of marine life form taking to the alpine skies thanks to the mod is the much smaller snowray, which packs a poisonous sting and can be found inhabiting: “icy places, such as glacial caves.”
Though, if you’ve played Morrowind, they might end up bringing back bad memories of batting Vvardenfell’s pesky cliff racers, so bear that in mind if you’re an Elder Scrolls veteran.
Regardless of whether you’re now watching a whale gently float by as you relax atop a mountain, make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the interesting world of Skyrim modding. You can also check out our mods of the month for March 2023.
