Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is universally praised, with most agreeing that this open-world title is worth getting a PlayStation 5. One person we didn’t expect to hear from is Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai, who has called the PS5 exclusive a masterpiece.
The fan-favorite Nintendo developer let his thoughts be known on Twitter, albeit, in Japanese. When translating the tweet, Sakurai reveals that he finished both Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, considering both games masterpieces.
Although most of us expected to see him praise a new Mario game, the fact that he also loved Insomniac’s superhero outing is nice. Of course, Sakurai isn’t limited to loving Nintendo games, as the game director also owns a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Series X. Sakurai also once told a story about being gifted an Xbox 360 from Microsoft, before it gave up on him via the red ring of death.
Fans are still waiting to see what Sakurai’s next major gaming project will be, as the developer has been fairly quiet since working on Smash Ultimate. Nintendo fans are hoping that he brings Kid Icarus: Uprising to the Switch or its successor, but we think he deserves a break after his efforts in Smash. The fact that the game has 89 crossover characters and they all feel unique is a mad achievement.
We can’t exactly blame the Smash Bros. creator for enjoying the sequel, as this is the greatest game Insomniac has ever made. Considering how the developer has also worked on beloved titles like Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive, that is saying a lot.
It’s clear that Insomniac put a ton of effort into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as many consider it to be the greatest superhero game ever made. Some could argue that it’s still Batman: Arkham City, but it can’t be denied that Peter and Miles’ latest adventure is an absolute thrill.
