For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of how you feel about the prospects of Bethesda's venture into space, what you think the end goal of its story might be or whether you like what it looks like in Far Cry 5, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
Recently, a number of would-be astronauts have been discussing which actors they’d like to provide some of the innumerable NPC voices they’ll hear as they travel from planet to planet.
Which famous voices do you think might feature in Starfield?
The thread containing their auditory appetites on the Starfield subreddit began with a post from user fenderampeg, who kicked things off by asking: “Who would you like to hear doing voice work in Starfield?” and added their own suggestion: “I’d like to hear Wayne June voice one of my companions.”
Their fellow players chimed in with a range of different suggestions, with some going for actors who’ll be familiar to fans of Bethesda RPGs, such as Elder Scrolls and Fallout staple Wes Johnson, and Matthew Mercer, known for voicing MacCready in Fallout 4.
Others went for those who’ve starred in different game series with a sci-fi focus, such as Shoreh Aghdashloo, beloved for her performances in both the Mass Effect and Destiny series, and Nathan Fillion, who’s starred in both Halo and Destiny titles, in addition to his starring TV role in Firefly, which user TheDireNinja admitted added extra fuel to their desire to see him in Starfield.
User TheOpeningBell set their sights even higher, outlining their wish to see Sir Patrick Stewart don a space suit, prompting Main-Double to issue an interstellar update to Uriel Septim the seventh’s iconic intro to Oblivion, saying: “I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I’ve ruled Starfield as its Emperor. But for all these years, I’ve never been the ruler of my own dreams…”
Meanwhile, user CardboardChampion suggested they’d be comfortable with a cast that isn’t star-studded, declaring: “What do celebrities add to a game other than a massive cost to their appearance that might get them mentioning on talk shows what they've done? Take that money and you can get full voice runs by several professional voice actors, increasing the number of voice types in the game at the cost of one person.”
