It seems Microsoft's new strategy for their gaming branch will include putting their biggest exclusive title on every platform possible as rumours have surfaced that Starfield might be coming to PS5 this year.
According to XboxEra, the massive Bethesda RPG, which was touted as Microsoft's big AAA launch of 2023 that would compete for Game of the Year accolades is coming to Sony's console following the release of Shattered Space, Starfield's first big expansion set to launch in 2024.
The news of Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 might shock a few that've been out of the loop, but not those that have been keeping tabs on recent Xbox rumours, that have stated several of their first-party titles might go multiplatform this year.
An early January report claimed that Hi-Fi Rush could be coming to Nintendo Switch. Weeks later, datamined information of a few cosmetics all but confirmed that the jazzy Tango Gameworks action title is also coming to PS5.
Despite lukewarm reactions from fans, Starfield can be seen as a big success for Microsoft and Xbox, reaching a very strong 1 million concurrent players milestone on all platforms in September of last year. The game also topped the Steam charts for said month despite launching on both PC and console Game Pass.
Nate The Hate, who has a reliable track record when it comes to leaks and rumours, said via social media that the report on Starfield coming to PS5 was accurate, claiming he heard similar rumours as well.
This report is accurate -- Starfield will land on PlayStation. I've heard similar but opted to wait on reporting this information until the PS5 release timeline was finalized.
At the moment, it seems Microsoft is moving away from promoting their Xbox hardware as an essential gaming console and is instead leveraging the popularity of the multiple iconic game franchises they now own by allowing these IPs to be featured on other platforms while they reap the rewards.
