Switch 2 has become a major talking point for gamers, and many are curious about how different this console will be. While some fans are excited about the console, others feel it is too “normal” for Nintendo. Because the DS, Wii, Wii U, and Switch were all different from each other, the revelation that this is “just” a beefier Switch has disappointed many.
Although we understand the desire to see more heart and creativity in this new system, complaining about a stronger Switch feels counterproductive.
Simply put, the Switch 2 being more powerful is everything fans have been asking for. Anytime modern ports for the system are announced, gamers complain about it coming to Switch, make fun of its power, and then talk about getting said game on PS5 or Steam Deck. If Nintendo just releases a stronger system that can play all of these major games properly,
We've been asking for a more powerful version of this beloved console since recent Nintendo exclusives had frame drops and performance issues. Even if fans don’t mind the minor performance issues in titles like Mario & Luigi: Brothership, having a stronger system that plays these games better is a huge plus.
Let’s also be honest: the original Nintendo Switch was a game-changer for consoles everywhere. The console proved that powerful handheld gaming has value. We don’t think about it much these days, but being able to play games like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Persona 5 Royal on the go is an amazing privilege.
Even if you don’t care about Switch, it paved the way for its more powerful (and expensive) competitors. We wouldn’t have a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, or Lenovo Legion GO without a Switch. If the Switch 2 can do half as much as these consoles, it will already be a huge success, and fans will eat it up.
That’s not to say the Switch 2 won’t be innovative. Many fans speculate that these new magnetic joy-cons will have mouse functionality, making this system almost PC-like. While we’ve seen consoles make keyboard accessories before, making the built-in controllers act like a mouse is original.
In short, the Switch 2 looks awesome, and fans should just be happy it’s more powerful than its predecessor.
