Warzone players are worried the battle royale is turning into Fortnite following the arrival of new cosmetic bundles.
The recent arrival of The Haunting event also introduced a wealth of Halloween skins to Warzone ranging from Skeletor to Evil Dead's Ash Williams as part of Activision's latest collaborations with the world of TV and movies.
Although they look excellent in-game, players dropping into the action are concerned that Call of Duty's mil-sim aesthetic is slowly disappearing in favour of brightly-coloured cosmetics and regular collaborations that wouldn't look out of place in the world of Fortnite.
After loading into a match alongside Soap MacTavish, Skeletor, a Halloween skin, and a generic mil-sim outfit, user Spicy-Tato1 took to Reddit to share their concerns.
The player says: "I don't know why but this is funny af to me." Despite the eclectic mix of characters aboard the Warzone drop plane, there are several fans who aren't bothered by the wide variety of Operator skins to choose from. One player states: "I love this about CoD. Something for everyone."
On the other hand, there are many who aren't fans of the unrealistic cosmetics detracting from what Call of Duty is synonymous with. Another adds: "Fortnite lookin ass game." They're not the only ones who can see the similarities with Epic Games' battle royale. One fan says: "Agree wholeheartedly! This game has slowly started turning more Fortnite-ish over the course of this Modern Warfare version."
Ultimately, Call of Duty is an arcade shooter and if there are all kinds of skins to purchase and unlock, they're not taking anything away from Warzone's gameplay that's amassed millions of players attempting to become the last one standing.
As long as the skins continue making money, then Activision will keep adding them resulting in Warzone moving away from its modern-day setting. Variety is the spice of life and if you're worried about colourful skins ruining the game, there are more realistic offerings available.
