With many long-term lovers of The Witcher 3 having decided to return to the game in order to check out the next-gen update released late last year, the streets of The Continent have been bustling with more life than they’ve seen in a good while for the past few months.
While the number of folks jumping back into the body of the white wolf might be starting to settle back down again after this brief resurgence, there are still plenty of interesting mods being produced that make saving Ciri one more time worth a go.
A number of these works have brought things like fresh and improved armours to the game or helped you to appreciate its ray-traced environments, but if you’re after something to visually spice up your battles with monsters, a new mod definitely looks worth adding to your load order.
Feel like your sword strokes in Witcher 3 don't’ quite look deadly enough?
The mod in question is called ‘Blood Trails’ and is the work of prolific modder Scoutbr0, whose previous projects have helped massively overhaul the game’s LOD and ensure that the city of Beauclair will be restored to its full glory following the events of the Blood and Wine DLC.
This time, they’ve decided to add “pretty bloody and circular trail” to every sword strike you unleash that successfully connects with an enemy’s flesh, a feature that seemingly appeared in some pre-release demonstrations of the game, but didn’t make it into the final version.
As well as bringing these gory effects back to The Witcher 3, the mod: “adds specific blood trails to specific monsters, (for example) insectoids will have green blood, vampires will have black blood, and animals, humans (and) common monsters will have the usual red blood.”
So, don’t worry about your immersion being ruthlessly ripped to shreds as violently as the poor creatures and crowds Geralt will be forced to scythe his way through in order to stay alive and pay his armour crafting bills will be once you’ve installed Scoutbr0’s work.
That said, if you’ve got an eye for finding beauty amid war and chaos, the modder’s screenshots of their work in action prove that there is something mildly artistic about creating perfect swirls and swoops with your swipes.
