With the release of Tears of the Kingdom now having arrived, most of the lucky Legend of Zelda fans who don’t have prior commitments are likely spending their day returning to the picturesque plains of Hyrule.
Regardless of which version of Nintendo’s latest release you chose to invest in or what you’ve thought of its overall experience so far, odds are the array of fuse-compatible weapons and immersive activities on offer will keep you entertained for a good while.
That said, there are plenty of things that you won’t find as you explore the game (bald Ganondorf anyone?), an idea that some of those fans who weren't busy checking out cool fan creations turned into a bit of an amusing way to help the hours fly by yesterday.
Do you wish any of these zany ideas had made it into Tears of the Kingdom?
Responding to a post from user The_Doolinator on the subreddit r/zelda, which saw them reveal that they’d be going into the game blind, but wanted to read some “outrageously fake spoilers” before doing so, the Zelda community managed to come up with some pretty amusing and not at all real premises.
For example, user Pure_Statistician919 went for a classic concluding twist, declaring: “In the end (it) is revealed that Link’s name was indeed actually Zelda.”
On the other hand, user VisualGeologist6258 chose to have their big surprise occur much earlier in the game, suggesting: “Link dies in the opening cutscene and for the rest of the game you have to play as two Koroks standing on each other's shoulders with the top one wearing Link’s hat and tunic,” to which unremarkable_name_2 added: “If you take a lot of damage, the upper Korok goes flying off. You then need to find more and re-stack yourself. See if you can stack all 900! Yahaha!”
Meanwhile, some users opted to give Tears of the Kingdom a complete genre-shift, such as gulyman, who said: “You actually finish the main quest in like an hour and the rest of the game is an in-depth cooking game and golf sim. Floating islands are for teeing off of.”
Similarly out-there ideas came from user davidwave4, who proposed: “The game actually takes place in a cyberpunk future, and Link gets a railgun,” while Reasonable_Service63 went for a more GTA-style vibe, musing: “Ganondorf kills Link by hitting him with a Ford F-250.”
