Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft’s latest entry to the Star Wars video game franchise, takes the Force with it in a massive heist spanning across the galaxy. Slated to be released this year, the action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment will have an interesting open world focusing on canon events in Star Wars while adding more details to the lore.
With multiple planets to explore, heists to complete, and a set of interesting new characters, here’s everything you need to know before Star Wars Outlaws becomes available this month.
Star Wars Outlaws Release Date and Editions
Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase last June 2023, Star Wars Outlaws is coming to next-gen consoles and PC on Friday, August 30, 2024. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. Star Wars Outlaws will come in two special editions: Gold and Ultimate. These editions will include the controversial season pass and a 3-day early access pass. The Ultimate Edition will also include cosmetics and a digital art book.
Unfortunately for owners of last-gen consoles, Star Wars Outlaws will not be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Where Does Star Wars Outlaws Fit in the Star Wars Timeline?
Star Wars Outlaws is happening during the Imperial era. It is when the height of the rebellion is at its peak, with multiple events happening across the entire galaxy. The exact time period of Star Wars Outlaws is from 3 ABY to 4 ABY, between the events of Star Wars: Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Episode VI, Return Of The Jedi.
During this time, criminal syndicates such as the Crimson Dawn and Hutt Cartel are prominent across different planets. Star Wars Outlaws will revolve around working for and against these crime lords.
Which Iconic Star Wars Characters Will Appear in Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws takes place when the Skywalker father-and-son duo feud occurs. At the same time, the criminal underworld is thriving due to massive conflicts within the galaxy. This means that various iconic Star Wars characters will be around to either help or hinder the game’s protagonist, Kaye Vess.
Jabba The Hutt
The infamous leader of the Hutt Cartel will be in Star Wars Outlaws, with the main story revolving around the galaxy’s crime syndicates. One of the game’s planets will be Tatooine, Jabba’s crime territory. Players will witness how Kaye interacts with Jabba as the protagonist works through various heists towards her goals.
Lady Qi'ra
Lady Q’ira is Han Solo’s childhood friend and the current leader of the Crimson Dawn. Initially led by Sith Lord Darth Maul, the Crimson Dawn stole the carbonite-imprisoned Han Solo from Boba Fett. This would cause a rift between the Crimson Dawn and the Hutts since Jabba has put a bounty on Han’s head for failing to pay him for lost cargo. How Kaye navigates through this conflict will possibly be one of the main arcs of Star Wars Outlaws.
Carbonite-imprisoned Han Solo
Last year, Star Wars Outlaws released a trailer showcasing a carbonite-frozen Han Solo. Throughout the Star Wars canon, frozen Han Solo is stolen by Crimson Dawn, regained by Boba Fett, and brought back to Jabba.
Star Wars fans know that Luke and Leia will rescue Han after months of being encased in carbonite, but Star Wars Outlaws will go through what transpired during the months that Han is frozen.
Lando Calrissian
A famous smuggler and gambler during his younger years, Lando is an exceptional entrepreneur and is seen interacting with Kaye in a game of cards. Lando is a pivotal character during the Imperial Era, becoming a part of the rebellion in the later parts of the Star Wars saga.
Kaye will be working pretty much with crime lords and smuggling in Star Wars Outlaws, and Lando is the best person to contact to get to know what’s in and out in the criminal underworld.

Star Wars Outlaws Controversies
With the announcement of the Gold and Ultimate Editions of Star Wars Outlaws, fans are not happy to see a season pass included in the game. Fans are wary of seeing additional side quests such as Jabba’s locked behind a paywall, and having a season pass for a single-player game is still ridiculous. Ubisoft has confirmed that Jabba will be part of everyone's game experience.
Another backlash from fans before Star Wars Outlaw’s launch was the difference in the quality of visuals when IGN released a video showcasing the gameplay. Fans were not happy with how the game looked in the gameplay video. Ubisoft responded that more videos that showcase the game’s high-quality open-world gameplay will be available soon.
Star Wars Outlaws has gone gold and will be released this August 30. Until then, follow Gfinity to stay updated with the latest gaming news and stories.
