Swords have always been a more niche pick in Destiny but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a force to be reckoned with. The Final Shape gives us a brand-new Exotic sword to grind for, which also involves a brand-new feature to get ahold of it. What’s more, the Destiny 2 Ergo Sum Exotic sword is quite unique in what it brings to the table. So, here’s how to get Ergo Sum in Destiny 2.

Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of swords though. Although Ergo Sum might not get your build-brain going, the rest of the Destiny 2 The Final Shape Exotics will. For example, you can reunite with the iconic Red Death and Khvostov, or hunt down the Still Hunt sniper, first-of-its-kind Microcosm heavy trace rifle, or even the Euphony raid Exotic weapon.

Destiny 2 Ergo Sum Perks

Destiny 2's Ergo Sum always has the following perk:

  • Transcendent Duelist Intrinsic Trait: This weapon collects less ammo. Final blows with this weapon accelerate Light and Darkness mastery.
Deals increased damage while Transcendent; defeating targets lengthens Transcendence.

The rest of Ergo Sum's perks are randomized, and can roll with any of the following Exotic traits:

  • Gathering Light Trait: Final blows with this weapon grant stacks of Gathering Light, improving guard stats and lunge range. Stowing this weapon consumes all stacks, granting melee, grenade, and class ability energy. This trait is inspired by Traveler's Chosen.
  • Wolfpack Rounds Trait: Powered heavy attacks cause nearby sword-wielders to emit tracking missiles with every attack. This trait is inspired by Gjallarhorn.
  • Sacred Flame Trait: Powered heavy attacks mark nearby targets, causing them to explode upon death. Striking marked targets with a Light attack detonates them. This trait is inspired by Ticuu's Divination.
  • The Perfect Fifth Trait: Every five hits attach a delayed Solar explosive, scorching your target. This trait is inspired by Polaris Lance.
  • Arc Conductor Trait: Powered heavy attacks charge the wielder, enabling them to resist Arc damage and chain lightning to nearby targets. This trait is inspired by Risk Runner.

  • Stormbringer Trait: Rapid final blows create a lightning storm at the target's location. This trait is inspired by Cloudstrike.
  • Unplanned Reprieve: Powered heavy attacks emit projectiles that detonate with a delayed Void blast. This trait is inspired by the Telesto.
  • Insectoid Robot Grenades Trait: Defeated targets drop insectoid robots that chase and explode close to other targets. This trait is inspired by the Colony.

As the iconic Gjallarhorn does for rocket launchers, Ergo Sum can drop with a perk called Wolfpack Rounds. This buffs other nearby sword users and, while it's relatively niche and requires a coordinated team to take full advantage of, Ergo Sum is invaluable in encounters where swords are popular.

Of course, there are plenty more perk combinations you can find too, all inspired by previous Exotic weapons.

Destiny 2 Ergo Sum God Roll

The best Ergo Sum god rolls you can get are Sword Master's Guard with a Lightweight or Aggressive frame and with Arc Conductor and Tempered Edge for add-clearing or Wolfpack Rounds and Jagged Edge for boss damage.

Remember though, there are plenty of fun combinations for you to play around with, especially when it comes to the random Exotic trait. For example, Insectoid Robot Grenades is another great choice for add-clearing encounters while Perfect Fifth can be good for killing bosses, especially solo.

Destiny 2 Ergo Sum Catalyst

The Ergo Sum Catalyst is earned by completing the Grandmaster Excision mission, a harder version of the 12-person mission to defeat the Witness.

The Catalyst for Ergo Sum adds the Transcendent Steel trait:

  • Dealing damage with a Transcendent grenade grants Ergo Sum ammo.

Building on Ergo Sum's already strong Transcendent playstyle, this Catalyst is a big boost in power. In fact, it's remarkably strong. All you have to do is take out a few enemies with your Prismatic Transcendent grenade, which is easy to do, and you'll nearly have full ammo again. In other words, you'll never run out of ammo if you're building your class for Transcendent.

Well, that’s all you need to know about the Destiny 2 Ergo Sum Exotic sword in The Final Shape. take on the Salvation’s Edge raid or track down the Exotic class items for each class.
