In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players will encounter legendary beasts, especially the fearsome high dragons.

These majestic beings bring the world of Thedas to life in the most challenging way possible. This article shows you where to find high dragons.

All High Dragons Locations and How to Defeat Them

Unlike the sprawling dragon hunts in previous games, most dragon fights here are intertwined with questlines.

While not every dragon is essential for unlocking achievements like Bringing Down the Sky, hunting them all proves your mettle as the ultimate Dragon Slayer.

Here's a detailed look at all eight High Dragons, where to find them, and strategies to bring each one down:

1. Corius the Icetalon

The choices you make early in the campaign might lead you to Corius the Icetalon.

This happens if you choose to defend Treviso in the quest On Deadly Wings, which comes after the story mission A Warden’s Best Friend.

Corius uses devastating ice bombs and frigid breath to freeze and slow your party.

To counter these attacks, equip your team with fire-based weapons and spells to exploit its elemental weakness.

Keep on the move to evade ice bombs that can easily engulf a target that’s standing still.

Use Lucanis’ abilities to deal high damage while shielding your party from freezing effects.

No matter how much you try, the battle won’t end here. Corius will retreat, but you’ll face it again in Fire and Ice, where the stakes are even higher.

2. Seartooth Vyrantis

Seartooth Vyrantis is the fiery counterpart to Corius and appears if you decide to protect Minrathous in On Blighted Wings.

As a Fire Dragon, Seartooth breathes fire and lashes out with powerful tail sweeps. The secret to winning this battle is to use cold-based abilities and weapons.

Neve is the ally you'll rely on in this fight, and her ice spells are important for protecting against Seartooth’s fire damage.

Stay far enough away to dodge its fiery breath and close in when the dragon pauses. Like Corius, Seartooth dips out before the fight is over.

This sets the stage for an epic showdown in Fire and Ice, where both dragons are an even bigger challenge.

3. Fangscorcher

Fangscorcher is the first dragon you’ll hunt for Taash in Slaying the Fangscorcher.

This quest takes you into the shadowy corners of Arlathan Forest. This is yet another Fire Dragon, but it's more aggressive and has heavier armor than Seartooth.

Focus on striking its legs from the sides to stagger it, and when its guard is down, target its underbelly.

Neve’s ice magic will be necessary again, so get her ready to counter the dragon’s fire attacks.

Keep moving to dodge its sweeping strikes and be ready to evade when it lunges at you.

4. Kataranda the Stormrider

Kataranda the Stormrider can be found on Dragon Beach along the Rivaini Coast.

This occurs during the Kataranda the Stormrider quest, which is part of Taash’s companion story. The beach is a risky place since the dragon electrifies the waters nearby.

Stay on dry land as much as possible, as stepping into the electrified ocean will cause severe damage.

The dragon can spit lightning bolts and claw swipes on the battlefield, so you need to dodge frequently and strike strategically.

Choose companions with spirit damage skills or strong resistance to electricity.

Strike between its lightning strikes and keep your distance from the water for a better chance at victory.

5. Kaltenzahn

This is the final dragon in Taash's series. It resides in Sharksmouth Caves, which you can access during the Lair of the Dragon King quest.

Kaltenzahn covers the area in freezing fog to mess with your vision and hits you with icy wind blasts that can throw your team off.

Select fire-based magic and gear that enhances your defense against cold. Stay light on your feet, as the crumbling platforms and lava around the arena leave little leeway for mistakes.

Exploit Kaltenzahn’s pauses to deliver fire-infused attacks. Spread out your party members to minimize the impact of its wide-range ice assaults.

6. The Formless One

This dragon appears in the Necropolis Halls after completing Emmrich’s companion quest and beginning Pinnacle of Its Kind.

The Formless One was sealed away but is back at full power, and to unlock this battle, you need to take down three demons tied to its origins.

This is a Lightning Dragon that can summon skeletons and create fields of electrified energy.

You’ll need Emmrich or Lucanis to deal Necrotic damage, which is especially effective.

Take out the summoned enemies fast to prevent getting swamped, and cast spells to break their energy fields.

Avoid the lightning bolts while managing the skeletons if you want to make it.

7. Mythal’s Retribution

After completing the Regrets of the Dread Wolf questline, players can find this battle with Mythal’s dragon form in the Crossroads.

It connects to Solas’s secrets and the memories of the Dread Wolf. Mythal’s Retribution is a lightning-infused dragon that places electric bombs across the battlefield.

Use equipment that increases resistance to spirit and electric attacks for survival. Always be on the move to escape the bombs, which explode after a short delay.

You need to stay spaced out and only attack when the dragon shows a weak spot and when there's a chance.

Unlike The Formless One, Mythal doesn’t summon backup, but her tough moves and unpredictable attacks put your reflexes and stamina to the test.

8. Revenant Dragon

The Revenant Dragon is arguably the most difficult dragon to defeat in The Veilguard.

This level 50 monster is the final challenge of the Heart of Corruption quest on Beacon Island.

Unlocking this fight involves collecting essences from defeated Champions and Revenants across Thedas.

This dragon throws Fire, Ice, and Lightning at you, so you need to keep adapting.

Equip gear that provides well-rounded elemental resistance, and be prepared to switch tactics as it changes its attack type.

Necrotic damage is also your best bet, and you’ll want to bring companions like Emmrich to exploit its vulnerabilities while staying alert to its changing attack patterns.

Duck its elemental attacks and get in some solid hits whenever you can. This is one of the toughest fights in the game, so bring plenty of healing potions and manage your resources wisely to endure this final draconic challenge.
