Quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard lead you deep into Thedas, with In Memoriam capturing Dock Town’s eerie mood like no other.

This quest focuses on unraveling a series of mysterious murders linked to demonic forces in Dock Town. Here’s how to solve the murders and find the victims.

How To Solve The Murders & Find The Victims in Memoriam

To start In Memoriam, go to Razikale Walk in Dock Town, where you’ll encounter a body skewered by a sword.

Interacting with the body triggers an ambush by several demons, including a formidable enemy called Despondence. Since this demon is highly susceptible to fire, use fire-based attacks first.

When the battle begins, Despondence periodically darkens the battlefield, so stay close to keep track of it even when it is blinding.

This demon also fires ice projectiles that track your movements, so you’ll need to keep moving to stay out of its line of fire.

The Glass Cannon modifier makes Despondence take a lot of damage but also lands powerful blows.

Stay aggressive, but be ready to back off after a quick hit to avoid counterattacks.

Burst damage works well here, so unleash a powerful combo or spell when you have an opening, then retreat to reposition.

As well as Despondence, Shades will spawn to throw you off and sometimes outnumber you.

If these Shades start to encircle you, clear them out quickly with area-of-effect attacks, especially fire-based ones.

This will allow you to keep your attention on Despondence without being swarmed.

You risk being boxed in if you ignore the shades for too long. When necessary, prioritize them briefly, then refocus on Despondence.

As you deplete Despondence’s health, watch out for its Exploding modifier when it’s defeated.

This trait means Despondence will release a burst of energy as it dies, damaging everything around it.

To avoid getting caught in this blast, step back once its health is nearly depleted, using a ranged attack or letting your final hit connect from a safer distance.

After defeating the demons, the Spirit of Compassion appears beside the corpse. It asks for your help to find the other victims and uncover who they were.

Here’s the way to uncover all three victims and solve the mystery.

Solve the Bridge Murder (Victim 1)

After Compassion’s request, trace the red bloodstains from the body up a nearby narrow staircase.

Stay on the trail as it winds up to a small building at the top. Inside, look for a journal on the table that reveals the first victim was a gardener named Hortensia.

Compassion makes another appearance, giving credit for solving the first murder. This reveals the first murder, but there are two more victims yet to be found.

Solve the Temple Murder (Victim 2)

Solving the second murder leads you to the Temple of Andraste, specifically to a place called Andraste’s Watch.

You’ll move through maze-like temple halls and climb a steep staircase. Moving through a pillar-filled courtyard, you’ll come across the second body lying on a wooden platform.

When you inspect the victim, you’ll face an attack from a demon called Remorse, who drains health and wields cold magic.

Chase down Remorse relentlessly to stop its health from regenerating, using fire attacks to wear it down.

Once you defeat the demon, Compassion reappears, pushing you to investigate the second victim’s identity more deeply.

Follow the blood trail from the wooden platform to a small workbench by a Fen'Harel statue to identify the second victim.

A piece of paper here tells you the second victim’s name was Marcus, a scholar. Compassion confirms this finding, leaving you with just one final murder to solve.

Solve the Market Murder (Victim 3)

For the last murder case, travel to the Urthemiel Venue located in Dock Town.

You can use fast-travel points to get there quickly. The blood trail here leads you around the big doors and eventually to a secret area with the third body.

When you examine the victim, the demon Isolation will show itself. It uses knockback attacks that push you back, briefly separating you from your companions and stopping cooperative combos.

Isolation's sadistic nature makes this encounter intense, and like the other demons, it's vulnerable to Fire.

Hit it with fire to take advantage of its weak spots, and don’t let up until Isolation goes down.

Once Isolation is dealt with, trace the blood trail to a wooden platform where a ladder is located.

You can climb to the top and find a scroll on a crate, which reveals the final clue: the victim was an artist.

One last time, Compassion thanks you for your work, bringing peace to the victims of Dock Town and solving the mystery.

You’ll earn 500 EXP, 200 Gold, 5 Fade-Touched Crystals, and a boost in your bond with companions.

This quest also boosts your standing with the Shadow Dragons, giving you more influence in the game.
