Dynasty Warriors: Origins isn’t just about wiping out enemies; it’s also about leveling up your character and becoming as powerful as possible.

One of the best ways to do this? Gems. These minor items grant passive boosts that can flip the script in harder encounters.

But crafting and using Gems isn’t always as simple as it seems.

You’ll need to learn how to gather the right materials, craft the Gems you want, and upgrade them to make them even more powerful.

This guide will explain everything you need to know about Gems.

How To Craft & Use Gems

You'll need to get further into the story to craft Gems.

You'll get access to the crafting system after you team up with Liu Bei’s Volunteer Army in Chapter 1.

Before you can craft anything, you’ll first need to gather Pyroxene, a raw material essential for crafting Gems.

Pyroxene is scattered across the lands of Dynasty Warriors: Origins. You'll mostly come across orange crystals in different places throughout the map.

As you explore, just tap on these crystals to collect Pyroxene. You’ll run into them while traveling from mission to mission.

Once you finish a Skirmish or main battle, new Pyroxene will pop up in old spots, so it’s worth returning.

Another way to obtain Pyroxene is to complete sidequests, defeat Thieves, or find it in letters you receive while playing.

Picking up Pyroxene isn’t too hard, but you’ll need to explore and do missions to get it.

When you've collected enough Pyroxene, head to an Inn or tent to craft some Gems.

Tap on Create Gems and you'll be on the crafting screen. Every time you use a Pyroxene, you get a Gem, but the type is up to chance.

This is where luck factors in, and you'll likely need to craft several Gems to get the right one.

It can sometimes be random, but there are ways to sway the outcome.

For example, after you make a Gem, you might see a white glow around one of the Gems in the crafting menu.

If you see this aura, the crafting system only lets you use the glowing Gems.

It’s a solid way to work on specific Gems, though there's no promise you'll get the type you want.

You can craft a bunch of Gems at once or take your time to craft them individually.

If you craft Gems one at a time, you’re more likely to activate Eyes of the Sacred Bird, restricting the types of Gems you can create.

For those targeting a specific Gem, turning on this effect and crafting it separately can up your chances, though it may take longer.

Five Gem varieties in Dynasty Warriors: Origins give different passive bonuses.

If you know what each Gem does, you'll have no problem picking the right one for any mission or challenge:

Oblivion Gem

Increases your attack range by 10%. The more you level up the Gem, the better the bonus gets, which is ideal for characters with big-area attacks.

Vortex Gem

Boosts damage by 10% on enemies in the air. This is perfect for players who like to stay airborne and need an edge when tossing enemies around.

Scorch Gem

Adds 10% more damage to enemies struck while parrying.

If you like playing defensively, this Gem is perfect for turning things around after blocking enemy attacks.

Wellspring Gem

You get health back for every 100 enemies defeated, and the Gem makes the healing stronger as it levels up.

This gem is incredibly useful in extended skirmishes with large crowds of foes.

Ascendance Gem

There's a 30% chance to block attacks from enemy officers automatically.

As the Gem's level increases, so does the chance, making it an ideal asset for fighting powerful enemies.

You have to upgrade your Gems to get the most out of them. The more you craft one type of Gem, the more powerful it becomes.

Every time you make a copy of a Gem you've already crafted, its XP goes toward leveling up the base Gem and strengthening the passive bonuses.

It's tricky to level up certain Gems because crafting is still random.

If you time it right with the Eyes of the Sacred Bird effect, it will narrow things down to three Gems, giving you a better chance of upgrading the one you're after.

Hold off until the effect happens, then craft them one at a time to maximize your chances of upgrading that Gem.

Even though you can only equip one Gem at a time, each gives you a distinct edge in battle.

It all depends on the situation when picking a Gem. If you’re heading into a fight with many enemies, the Wellspring Gem’s healing might come in clutch.

If you're up against a heavy hitter, the Ascendance Gem’s auto-block could turn things around.

You can throw on your Gem in the Battle Prep menu and review your next mission's strategy.

Since you can only equip one Gem at a time, choose the one that fits your current goals and combat style.

Keep your Pyroxene supply steady if you want to craft and upgrade Gems regularly.

This means returning to spots on the map where Pyroxene spawns and wrapping up missions occasionally.

It may seem like a lot of work, but it’s key to leveling up your Gems and having the best gear for the game's later stages.

Check for Pyroxene respawns after each fight; fresh crystals will pop up in the usual spots.
