In Black Myth: Wukong, upgrading your armor is a crucial step on your path to success. Although it is possible to craft armor from the beginning of the game, upgrading it requires effort. You must locate an important place to be able to upgrade your armor. This unfamiliar place is called The Painted Realm, and it can only be accessed by completing specific tasks.
To find this hidden location, you’ll need to complete the game's first two chapters and a quest. In the Painted Relam, you’ll be able to find many NPCs to interact with and be able to upgrade your armor. This guide helps you learn everything you need to know about it.
How to upgrade your armor
Unlocking the ability to upgrade your armor requires a lot of time and hard work. Here’s everything you need to know about upgrading your armor in Balck Myth: Wukong:
Defeat Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw
Armor can be upgraded once you’ve reached Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong. After completing Chapter 2, meet with Xu Dog near the Kepper’s Shrine in Sandgate Village. Here, you’ll be asked to fetch one of Xu Dog’s formulas from a frog that swallowed it. You’ll be directed to a pond where you will find Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw.
Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw is an optional boss, but you’ll need to fight him to unlock the Painted Realm.
Once you’ve defeated the frog boss, head back to Xu Dog. After the cutscene ends, you can find Xu Dog at the Cellar in Crouching Tiger Temple. Complete the quest and defeat Kang-Jin Star.
Defeat Chen Loong
As you reach the end of the quest, you’ll take a huge leap from a giant turtle’s head and face Chen Loong, an optional yet crucial boss. Eliminating this dragon will make him beg you for a magical pill that can only be obtained from Xu Dog.
Using the game’s fast-travel mechanics, head over to Xu Dog in the Crouching Tiger Temple and get the pill by interacting with him. Feeding Chen Loong the pills transports you to the promised land of the Painted Realm.
Upgrade Your Armor
You'll find various NPCs hanging about when you’re in the Painted Realm. These are in-game merchants selling useful items. In the Painted Realm, you’ll meet Yin Tiger. He is a merchant and will be your person of interest in upgrading your armor.
Battling an NPC allows you to take on their battle form. Defeating Yin TIger grants you a huge sword and the ability to tank damage.
