Your journey as the Destined One finishes after you complete the Black Myth: Wukong storyline—at least, that’s the standard way to think about it. But there is still plenty to be explored, and for those who seek to go beyond the standard experience, the developers have hidden a secret ending.

To unlock it, however, players must engage (and complete) certain objectives. What are they, and how do you complete them? We explore this below.

Complete the Treasure Hunter’s Side Quest

The first major task to unlock the secret ending is to complete the Treasure Hunter’s side quest in Chapter 3.

The quest kicks off after your first interaction with the Treasure Hunter when he’s being attacked by enemies near the North Shore of Bitter Lake Keeper’s Shrine.

After rescuing him, the Treasure Hunter will change locations multiple times. You will need to track him until he reaches the Melon Field Keeper's Shrine. Finally, once you reach the green-capped Martial Artist, the adventure will come to an end.

Defeat the Secret Area Bosses

The next step involves defeating four bosses hidden in secret areas (and successive chapters) across the game.

  • In Chapter 1, you’ll need to ring three bells to access the hidden boss Elder Jinchi.
  • In Chapter 2, you'll need to complete the Request of the Drunken Boar before confronting the secret boss, Fuban.
  • In Chapter 4, you’ll have to defeat the Venom Daoist.
  • In Chapter 5, you will face the secret boss, Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast (unlocked after you complete the Five Cart side quest.)

Taking down these bosses is crucial to progress towards the secret ending.

Travel to the Great Pagoda Realm

After completing the abovementioned steps, head to Chapter 3’s New West Region and travel to the Great Pagoda Realm. To do so, fast-travel to the Snow-Veiled Trail Keeper’s Shrine, head down the slope, and cross a wooden bridge.

Continue forward until you reach a large hall, the Great Pagoda.

Upon climbing the stairs, you will encounter an NPC from the Treasure Hunter Quest. This initiates a cutscene—and unlocks a new hidden area known as Mount Mei.

Defeat Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings

At Mount Mei, you'll fight one of the toughest bosses in Black Myth: Wukong—Erlang Shen.

Upon beating him, you’ll see a cutscene. Here, Erlang Shen transforms into a beast-like creature and teams up with the Four Heavenly Kings. At this point, you become the Stone Monkey, who now has to defeat five enemies at once.

Final Battle and True Ending

In the final phase, you head back to Mount Huaguo to face off against the Stone Monkey and the Great Sage’s Broken Shell. Upon defeating them, you unlock the secret ending to the game (which also features key moments from Journey to the West.)
