Metaphor: ReFantazio hides multiple locked chests. One of these chests can be found while navigating the Regalith Grand Cathedral.
It holds a key item that unlocks additional content deeper within the cathedral. This article guides players through unlocking the chest and what to expect inside.
How To Open Cathedral Locked Chest in Metaphor: ReFantazio
Accessing the treasure chest inside the Regalith Grand Cathedral is both a test of skill and a source of great rewards.
Although it is not required to progress through the main story, skipping it means missing out on valuable equipment that can enhance your journey. The first thing you need to do to unlock the chest is find the Guest Room Key. This key is located in a room near the locked chest.
You will notice that the key is hidden in a room marked with an exclamation point on your map. However, this room's entrance is blocked by rubble and is inaccessible through conventional means.
To get past the blockage, head to the room behind the blocked one. Check closely for a small hole in the wall, often hidden by barrels or debris. Crawling through the hole brings you into the blocked room, where you will find the body of a fallen soldier.
Search the area to retrieve the Guest Room Key. Be sure to grab any nearby items since the room contains other useful loot to aid your progress. Once you have the Guest Room Key, go downstairs to find the Guest Room.
You can reach it through a small staircase just below the locked chest area. As soon as you unlock the door and step into the room, you’ll be ambushed by a group of undead enemies (Malmorta).
These enemies you encounter here are resistant to certain attacks but weak against light-based magic and fire-elemental abilities. They tend to swarm the party and deal steady damage over multiple turns, so ensure your healing and defense are sorted out.
Light spells like Hama or fire-based attacks can quickly eliminate them and give you an upper hand in this tough encounter. After you defeat the enemies, interact with the Pale Monk, an NPC inside the Guest Room.
As a reward for your efforts, the monk will give you the Treasure Chest Key, the item needed to unlock the chest you encountered earlier. Once you have the Treasure Chest Key, return to the locked chest in the main area of the cathedral.
Unlock the chest using the key; inside, you will discover the Sanctified Amulet. Although the amulet might not seem like much at first, it turns out to be quite important later in the dungeon.
As you progress into the cathedral, you will encounter a sacred altar. This is when the Sanctified Amulet steps in. Place the amulet on the altar to activate it and unlock a second chest.
Inside this chest is the Exorcist’s Cassock, an armor piece that offers strong defensive bonuses and resistance to dark magic. This gear will come in handy during the more challenging battles later on.
