The Zombies mode in Call of Duty games is a classic mode that we've sunk an ungodly number of hours into across their multiple entries. However, Modern Warfare 3 is the first Modern Warfare title to get the Zombies mode. If you're unfamiliar with zombies, you might be wondering how Field Upgrades work in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.
Despite it seeming easy enough, Modern Warfare 3 Zombies can be quite difficult and unforgiving, especially at higher levels. Zombies become tougher, and we get extremely powerful variants. You'll have to use Perks, Wonder Weapons, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades to level the playing field. So here are all Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Field Upgrades.

What are Field Upgrades in MW3 Zombies?
Field upgrades are abilities and skills that you have access to during the Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode. They are different from their counterparts in multiplayer mode and have a unique aesthetic fitting for the zombie theme. You'll only have access to one field upgrade at the start, but you will eventually unlock more as you make progress through the various stages. Field upgrades will have a unique slot in your loadout and inventory.
You can also further enhance your Field Upgrades by using the consumable acquisitions. Each Field Upgrade has five different tiers, with each tier bringing more power to your abilitiy.
All Field Upgrades in MW3 Zombies
Energy Mine
Recharge time: Medium
The Energy Mine spawns an explosive, dealing massive damage to enemies who set it off. Use this to blow up hordes of zombies at chokepoints or deal big damage to single-priority targets. Upgrades enhance the blast and the number of times it goes off.
Frenzied Guard
Recharge time: Slow
The Frenzied Guard repairs armour to full and forces all enemies in the area to target you for 10 seconds. You can repair your armour while the perk is active by killing enemies, making this perfect for players who want to play the role of a berserker for their team.
Healing Aura
Recharge time: Slow
Healing Aura restores all players immediately (and in last stand), making this the most suitable upgrade for the team's designated healer. It summons down beams of light that will heal you and your teammates in a designated area back to full health. The Healing Aura has some potent upgrades at higher tiers with lots of utility.
Frost Blast
Recharge time: Medium
Summon a Frost Blast that damages enemies with the initial blast and slows those that enter the area of effect. Enemies you slow down also become vulnerable and take additional damage while under the effects of Frost Blast. A great utility ability for controlling hordes and buffing team damage against powerful zombies once upgraded.
Aether Shroud
Recharge time: Medium
Become invisible to zombies by phasing into the Dark Aether for 5 seconds. Escape any tricky situation where you're backed into a corner or on the run from a particularly powerful zombie. You'll still be visible to other players. Upgrades grant you duration, utility, and mobility bonuses.
Tesla Storm
Recharge time: Slow
For 10 seconds, lightning connects to other players, stunning and damaging normal enemies. Use the power of friendship and chain lightning between your team to electrocute zombies around you. Upgrade it to make it more effective against special and elite enemies.
Toxic Growth
Recharge time: Medium
Create a large growth of spiky thorns in front of you that slowly expands and damages enemies. Additionally, the enemies damaged by the thorns are slowed and take poison damage as well. Great for cutting off areas you can't handle at the moment or to catch a quick breather.
Ring of Fire
Recharge time: Slow
Create a ring of ethereal flames around you that lasts for 15 seconds. While inside the ring, you and your allies' damage is boosted. Zombies who try to enter the ring will gain a burning effect and start rapidly losing health. It's great for locking down a single area while you restock or take care of an important objective. It's also excellent for a DPS boost during boss fights.
Best Field Upgrades in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies
Aether Shroud is the best solo Field Upgrade, whereas Frenzied Guard is the best Field Upgrade for boss fights.
The best Field Upgrade really depends on your playstyle, whether you're going out there solo or plan on coordinating more with your team. Aether Shroud is great for solo players who like to dive into danger, while Ring of Fire and Healing Aura are based around supporting your team. Mix and match these with your friends to find the combination that suits you the best!
