Here's how to get a second Koraidon or Miraidon without trading in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Spoiler warning: you can only do this when you see the credits roll. It's a good way to get a spare to trade for the other, so it's a near-essential step in completing your Pokedex.
At the beginning of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games, you find yourself teaming up with the Koraidon or Miraidon. Despite the box legendary Pokemon typically being a dramatic battle toward the end, Gamefreak decided to switch things up a little for this release. And in another twist, yours isn't the only one in the story.
Though they're not yet allowed in competitive modes (you can check out our season one best Pokemon list for alternatives) they likely will be in the near future. Beyond a great way to complete the Pokedex, grabbing a second can make setting up two distinct teams a breeze.
How to get a second Koraidon or Miraidon
In order to catch Koraidon or Miraidon again, you will need to have completed a couple of different quest lines in order to reach Area Zero. There are three sections that will take some time each, but there is no getting around them.
- Defeat all of the Team Star leaders and the Team Star boss.
- Defeat the Elite 4 and Champion.
- Defeat all five Titan Pokemon.
Once you've completed the three paths of the Treasure Hunt, you'll assemble a team of characters strong enough to brave Area Zero inside the Great Crater of Paldea. Down there is where your second Koraidon or Miraidon awaits.
To reach the crater, fly to Medali and head East out of the town and into the crater area. Follow the clear path to enter a cavern with a lab at the end.
Once there, begin your descent to the very bottom of Area Zero to reach Lab Zero.
Complete the fight against a certain someone in the final room and you'll be challenged to a real final showdown by either Miraidon, Guardian of Paradise or Koraidon, Guardian of Paradise, matching your own legendary.
With the Pokemon defeated, you'll see the credits roll. Simply head back to the bottom of Area Zero once you regain control of your character to catch Miraidon or Koraidon.
How to find Koraidon or Miraidon
You'll find the same Pokemon as your own waiting up a ramp against a crystal pillar in the watery area around Zero Lab. Prepare your team, save your game, and begin the fight.
They have a very low catch rate, so stock up on Ultra Balls and Timer Balls before you kick things off.
Will Miraidon or Koraidon respawn?
Rather than fainting, they will simply flee and respawn between 10 and 60 minutes.
However, As with all legendary fights, it’s also recommended to bring a Pokemon that knows the move False Swipe in order to get it down to 1hp. Having an easy way to apply Paralysis helps, too, so consider using Nuzzle from Pawmot or Pachirisu.
